Overpriced, stained & torn linens, poor service
By Mike, 01/03/10
I was very unhappy about my stay At the Vagabond Inn. It is overpriced for what you get. The towels, sheets, blanket & bedspread all had stains & were torn. The bedspread literally was falling apart at the seams. There was quite a bit of litter in the parking lot. Speaking of parking lots, for the price I didn't expect to see the undesirable types of people loitering in the parking lot all night. They were drinking & who knows what else. They were loud. It wasn't just a single group of people either. I went to take a shower in the middle of the afternoon & there was no hot water! How many other people could have been using the hot water up- the parking lot was near empty of cars. The shower head was so crusted that the water flow was limited to a drizzle. The internet never worked & the cable TV went in & out. Trying to figure out the remote was a chore in itself. There was no instructions for the remote, the phone & no tv channel guide in the room. Not the most important things, but if I'm paying mid priced, these are things I expect. The service was dreadful. I was told nothing could be done about the lack of internet connection or cable reception. As for the characters in the parking lot, I complained several times throughout the night & was told the following "I'll take care of it" "They've been told to keep it down" "They are paying guests & no one else is complaining" When I asked for the manager, I was told the manager wasn't available. The person I dealt with was quite rude & surly. He seemed to be annoyed & acted as if I was bothering him. He told me "What am I supposed to do about the bedspreads?" I was so unhappy with the problems that I left before dawn & went to the motel next door called Bela Vista. It was quite a bit cheaper but with none of the problems.

Dirty, dusty rooms!!! Get what you pay for I guess
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/16/07
My room was so dirty I cleaned it up myselt! The a/c and dust bunnies hanging off it, lamp shades has last years dust still on them and the carpets are soooo bad I cant take my shoes off. Stains to dirty walls to just a place to stay, no longer than one night though!!!! They really could use updated rooms and a real cleaning to the carpets, walls and bedding! Look around before you spend money for the weekend, trust me!

Never Again!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/28/06
I would rather sleep in my car! The rooms were alright, I guess. The staff was horrendous. Maids walked in despite "Do not Disturb". Front desk was possibly the rudest I've ever encountered. Required cash deposit, even with credit card. Double charged my credit card and still haven't reconciled 10 days later. I would stay again if they paid ME!

Decent stay for reasonable price
By Dan, 10/20/05
The location is very convenient. Service is what it should be. Although clean and recently refitted, the rooms are showing evident wearing. Breakfast is boring. If the price would be 10$ lower it will then be just about right. I'll recommend it for short stay or for field service men. Clearly not tourists. Fast Internet is randomly out-of-order. Warning: not all rooms are Internet ready, so make sure you ask for one that is.

The Only Way to go to Great America
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/15/05
We go to the Santa Clara area every six months or so, for years now, to visit the grandparents. The Vagabond is the only way we would be able to afford doing this - between the plane tickets and dinners out, its an expensive idea. But we love our parents, they are getting on in years, and the kids absolutely adore Great America as we have no theme parks anywhere close by us. Luckily, they live rather close, so we can send the kids to the park all day while we spend time with our parents. The staff at this place is so sweet to us, the manager always remembers us and is always very helpful. We look forward to staying here for years!

Great Place to Stay
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/08/05
This is a great hotel. The staff is super, very accomodating and friendly. The location is ideal - close to Great America for the kids and most of the business in the area for the adults. It is very clean & comfortable. Close to the expressway. Stayed here for a conference at a corporate HQ and I was very satisfied. They have a breakfast every morning, complimentary. Best part is the layout. The atmosphere makes it like going home after a long day at a conference. The hotel has about 70 rooms so make your reservation early. We stayed here for 8 nights and enjoyed it very much. You won't be disappointed.

Super Cheap to be Super Close to the Convention Center
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/02/05
I am in the first year of running my own business. As many people know, this is a very expensive endeavor. To be part of this one trade show at the Santa Clara convention center, I almost drained my bank account. I needed reasonable accomodations at a great rate. I can't make myself stay in a totally gross place, and there are always ssafety concerns for a woman travelling alone, but I think I got a winner with the Vagabond Inn. Everything was clean, safe, and the lcoation superb. The convention lasted 3 days longer than I booked the room for, and since everything was going so well, I decided to extend my stay and try to make some contacts. The staff was cordial and very professional, unlike so many hotel employees. The free breakfast was a treat, and I truly enjoyed my stay.

What a great place for the kids to tag along a business convention!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/28/05
This place was a great way to turn a stuffy 3 day business convention into a family vacation! We just stayed for another few days, and then let the kids go to Great America as much as they wanted. They also could go get their waffles in the morning on their own, so we could sleep in. I felt totally comfortable letting the kids out on their own, this place was so safe and clean. The rooms were really cozy comfortable and clean...the three C's I look for when I am ready to go out of town! And all for a really great, affordable price.
