They d'nt have coffee machine in the room nor at the lobby..very badservice...the furnishing looks modern, but a closer look reveals the bad design. i found some unused wood planks. This place needs major cleanup.

NEVER AGAIN!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/12/08
I booked this hotel through Priceline so I only paid $100 per night... even that was too much! The rooms were okay. The furnishings were pretty shabby (it was like visiting a grandmother's house). We stayed on the 6th floor and it was so noisy. I could hear every footstep around me and the sliding glass doors to the adjacent rooms sounded like there was construction going on all around us! They say they have turn down service... we never got it! My wireless internet never worked. I spent over an hour of our vacation time on line with tech support and still never got anywhere. The phone in our hotel room was not working either. We called and had maintenance up to fix it. Well, that brings me to our next nightmare of a problem. On the day we were checking out we noticed a charge for $875 on our bill. When we inquired about it, they told us it was for a long distance call to Virginia that we never made. We don't even know anyone in Virginia. We were vacationing with our children... we were not on business. We had several business sounding messages every night when we returned. I think the phone lines got crossed somehow. Anyway, my husband informed the staff and they told us they would remove the charges. Two days later, the charges showed up on our visa statement anyway. Now, I have to go through the trouble of disputing these charges. Also, they charge you $10 per day for parking. This is a total rip off. It is not in the middle of a major city. It is a regular parking lot like you find at any hotel. I guess with being a 4 star hotel I was expecting too much. I would not have even considered this a three star!

Noisy!
By Jenna, 08/09/07
Though Hotel La Jolla is walking distance to La Jolla Shores, has a wonderful restaurant called Clays with a view of La Jolla, and has diligent cleaning staff, it's very noisy. We were located on the third floor above the entrance. Next door to the hotel is a carwash that makes a very load noise every time someone drives through. Below us was an outdoor smoking section where people smoked (and the smoke blew into our room when the windows were open) and talked loadly until late hours waking us up. I called the front desk but that didn't make the people talking below us stop. I had to ask them to move. Also, the hotel is right next door to a busy road and the traffic noise ricochets off the other buildings. Even with all the doors and windows shut, our room was extremely noisy. Other problems: Homeless people sleeping under very near-by bridges. Probably not dangerous, but I would be concerned about unsupervised kids. No fans in the bathrooms. Absolutely no water conservation or environmental messages anywhere. I would not recommend this hotel if you are looking for peace and quite.

we stayed at la jolla hotel in oct. 2006 when we first arrived they had given our room away.. i had made reservations 3 months in advance.. so that night they upgraded us after 1-1/2 hours of waiting... but didnt know if they would have a room for us the next 3 nights... so we had to wait all day to find out... they did have a room the next day.. the desk help that night was very rude because our electronic key reader wouldnt work, it need repairs... the room we had did face the ocean BUT it is not just short blocks to the beach more like a couple miles walk you will need a car... it was very difficult to find parking even thought you have to pay a parking pass.. but the lounge upstairs does not have to pay for a parking pass but they do park there till wee hours in the moring with loud booming music... dont think we would use them again.. the room was clean, didnt get the same shower products or towels each day... you might keep looking...

bad service!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/18/06
Rooms extremely overcharged... its 'OK' hotel with clean small rooms with not that far from ocean (NOT A WALKING DISTANCE) .........BUT FOR 150.00 or so! not 230-250... never will stay there again.. and they lie about pricing!! charging you much more afterwards.

Great! Great! Great!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/01/06
It was the things we didn't expect that really impressed us. The terry cloth robes, the heated tile floors, and the well stocked fridge. The upstairs restaurant was excellent, and the view of La Jolla and the coastline was awesome!

We will go back!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/11/05
The room was very spacious and comfortable. It was within walking distance to the beach and the restaurant had great food for dinner. We had a wonderful view of the ocean. Only complaint was the sheets were like sandpaper. T & J

All-round good place
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/24/05
We stayed at the Hotel La Jolla for 11 nights in July/Aug 2005. Initially, we were a bit disappointed in the varied level of housekeeping service (different housekeeping staff tended to do different things, but it was ALWAYS clean). But we left a note asking for what we needed (4 chocolates for 4 people, not just 2) and the staff was MORE than responsive to our requests. We tip nightly, which definitely helps! It's a great location. We easily went north and south by car along the coast to Carlsbad and Coronado and points in between. The beach is a quick walk away and the shops and restaurants in the area were good. I highly recommend Piatti, a great sophisticated Italian restaurant. One night, we got "to go" from there and ate it on the balcony while the kids had lunchables on the beds. Thjere is also a starbucks and a subway sandwich shop next door to the hotel. We did not eat in the hotel restaurant, but the views there are spectacular. All rooms have a balcony facing toward the ocean. Lower ones are the garden views, upper ones the actual ocean views. There is some street noise, so the higher the better, even with the garden views.

Not really on any beach
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/25/05
Beach is in walking distance, but not close enough so you would want to do it more than once a day. Not in walking distance to downtown La Jolla. Room is spacious, clean, shower is good for tall people. Nice gym, pool, Jaccuzi. Free parking all day, many spots in the shade. Nice porch. All rooms are in the direction of the ocean, but some or not high enough (since the hotel is not on the beach).
