Everything costs extra
By ,
We arrived at the 4:00 check-in time and found that because of a wedding, there were no more self-park spaces. We had no choice but to pay the $25 fee for valet parking. Also, our room wasn't ready. No apology, just offered to call us when it was ready, and also to deliver our luggage to the room. We went to sit out by the pool, which was very nice, but they didn't call for 45 minutes. When we got to the room, the luggage wasn't there so we went to have complimentary wine in the lobby. (Cheese to accompany the wine was $15-$20 for three small samples.) We went back to our room to freshen up for dinner and the bags still weren't there. We called the desk and they were delivered within 5 minutes. Still, no apology. We had dinner in the bar, choosing to skip the pretentious, over-priced restaurant. (The best thing about the place was the very nice bartender/waitress who took care of serving our dinner. Kudos!) Our shared hamburger and fries was $20. Really excellent hamburger but still just a hamburger. The room was small and too warm. (Cost, $359 for one night.) When making the reservations, we were asked for our pillow preference. They ignored that preference. Small thing, but why ask if you're not going to honor the request anyway? The next morning we went to the lobby for breakfast expecting a complimentary continental breakfast only to be charged $20 for two pastries, a cappacino and a cup of tea. The staff was rushed, friendly but not helpful and didn't seem to care about providing good service, except for the evening bartender. We were also disappointed to learn that just using the hot tub would have cost us $39 apiece because it is located in the spa. I can't imagine ever staying here again.

What a disapointment
By ,
We pulled up to an amazing looking hotel but once we got to our room we were very disapointed. We had even paid more for a fireplace room (260) It was tiny and poorly furnished and found it no better than a best western at 3 times the cost. Then we looked at the spa prices. Double what they have been elsewhere. Then we looked at room service........????? We will never stay there again. But...... While you are in sonoma have dinner at "The Girl and The Fig" GREAT!!!!!!

Very average.

Nice place but way over rated. Maybe a 3 star max. We spent the weekend there and left feeling like we paid for a 5 star but got a 2 star hotel.

Many, many visits over the years!
By ,
We've been coming to the Sonoma Mission Inn for years - even before it was associated with the Fairmont Hotel chain. We've enjoyed family weekends when my daughter was just a toddler (the big pool was great fun for her) - and now she's fifteen. I've had a few girl-weekends, with the emphasis on the spa. And a couple of romantic weekends for special occasions. I've even visited as a "day-spa" user by myself to unwind and relax. The remodel of the spa (must be 5 to 8 years ago?) is a huge WOW! And the array of treatments is incredible. Look up the "floats", or the combo exfoliation-wrap-massages, or anything with warm oils massaged into your skin. The prices are on the high-end (rooms and spa treatments), but they do attract the best massage therapists in the area - only the Claremont Hotel & Spa in Oakland can compete on this point. I haven't had a mediocre treatment ever - and I have had many massage treatments in many spas due to a bad back. As a day-spa user, the outdoor facilities that you are able to use before or after your treatments are luxurious (not to mention the mineral pools - indoor and out). I do miss the use of a "same-sex" mineral pool like I believe they use to have - sometimes it's nice to linger in the buff. But that's the only negative that comes to mind - and it's a small one. It might be nice to have some special treatments for teens to support a mother-daughter weekend - before the age of 18. Not many spas offer this concept - the only one that comes to mind is the Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego. The area around the resort has improved over the years, but it's not like staying in downtown Sonoma or St. Helena in the Napa Valley. But the resort has everything you need - so why leave? All in all, save up your money and plan a visit for a special occasion. Everyone deserves a special treat now and then. The Sonoma Mission Inn has never disappointed me.

The best of the best, a sure thing every time!
By ,
The Sonoma Mission Inn has been my special place to go to when I want to be pampered, to sleep in a wonderfully cozy room as well as be treated to consistantly great service and indulgent food (and wine, of course!). I have been a guest at this hotel many times over the past thirteen years and it only gets better each time. The spa is the best, I have been to many all over the world, none compare.

Great Place for an Aniversary
By ,
My husband I stay at the Fairmont to celebrate our first wedding anniversary a couple of weekends ago. When we arrived at the resort the staff upgraded us to a Mission Suite upon learning that it was our anniversary. The Mission Suite is a wonderful room. It had such a nice romantic feel to it. I fell in love with the four post bed, beautiful Spanish tile and the open space bathroom. While we were having dinner the staff scattered rose petals about the room and had a bottle of chilled champagne waiting for us. It was such a wonderful surprise when we returned from dinner to see our already romantic room transformed into a beautifully romantic oasis. My husband and I loved every moment of our stay. We plan to return to the resort every year to celebrate our anniversary.

Will not go back
By ,
My wife and another couple have just returned from a Chrismas weekend at the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa. The hotel room was a little disappointing when I compared it with my last stay at another Fairmont (San Francisco)and the service was average. We paid a little over $400. The hotel Spa was great but the massages ($125-$150) were not worth the money. However, I would recommend any of the foot massage (under $100) which was fabulous but the full body deep tissue was a little disappointing. This was an unanimous from all four of us. In fact, my friend's wife paid for a deep tissue she never got. She brought this up to the service counter the next day and got the brush off. The hotel restaurants are OK. We went to Spante for my friends B-day which we treated. It was price in 3 or 4 course meals ($65-$75) and not by individual courses. The services was great until desert. Our waiter came back 10 min later to inform us the desert we ordered was not available and then another 10 min later to inform us the alternative desert was not available and then another 10 min later to inform us that no desert was available at all. Luckily, we had good wine and a good conversation so it didn't bother us too much but needless to say, it was a little frustrating. Eventually, he gave us cookies and ice cream which he said was on the house but on check out, we later found out it was not. The excercise classes were great and free. It was one of the few redeeming qualities of this hotel as the instructors were great. Overall this is not the luxury hotel I expected. The room was mediocre relative to a luxury class hotel. The service was just as mediocre. Hence, I give this an average rating and I think I am being a little generous to do so.

There's NO place like home!!
By ,
We travel regularly and prefer to stay in well appointed hotels. The Sonoma Mission Inn and Spa was a HUGE disappointment! It is in a very small town, so we drove the 40 minute drive to Napa for things to do every day. I used the spa one day and it was average, at best. My husband was there to attend a meeting. The meeting was held in a tent on the front lawn. You could here the speakers from the front driveway entrance. Their "business Center" was a small closet with two computers that didn't work. The front desk told me to call the 800 number to report their computer problems! We were treated very poorly during our five long days of stay. As of yet, the Fairmont has not responded to our concerns. If you are looking for a well appointed, full service hotel, look somewhere else other than this property. Should be rated a 2 star, at best!

A look at the other side of the fence
By ,
The Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa was beautifully manicured and maintained. Lush plantings filled the property, and it was surprisingly quiet though just off the main road. Our room was roomy and clean, with very comfortable bed appointments and a small balcony that could only seat one. The bathroom was also large, but for the size we expected a double-sized or jacuzzi tub, not the standard one that was there. The bath ritual, which can be enjoyed with any spa service, was relaxing and enjoyable - a pleasant addition to the massages we'd scheduled. We detected no odor from the mineral bath as some other posters have mentioned. Dinner at Sante was prix fixe and we found the selections to be a bit limited. The second night we ordered room service due to the more varied selection. The service throughout was excellent. The only downside was, for the price, we expected a little more: HBO, jacuzzi tub, free Internet connection, etc.
