Incorrectly Charged Me $300!
By DaveS, 9/20/10
My wife and I were recently displaced after our apartment in San Francisco was damaged in a fire. Our insurance company arranged for us at the Palace Hotel while our apartment was repaired. When I arrived at the hotel, the clerk required that I put down a credit card for "incidentals" even though my insurance company was covering the bill. When the repairs were completed on my apartment, I explained everything the front desk, and they waived the early check-out fee. Several weeks later, the Palace Hotel charged my credit card nearly $300! I contacted the hotel and spoke with the Reservations Manager, Frances S. She claimed that a second reservation had been made for me by my insurance company. She said that since I did not show up for the second reservation, they charged me a no-show fee. My insurance told me that the Palace Hotel probably made an error. Moreover, my insurance company does not have my credit card number, so it is clear that the Palace Hotel inappropriately used the credit card I provided during my stay for “incidentals” to secure a second reservation I contact the Reservations Manager again and she agreed to “try” to issue me a refund but she was unsure whether it would be approved by the Accounting Department. Since then I have not heard from the Palace Hotel, nor have I received a refund.

Our experience at the Palace in San Francisco
By Jeff, 10/14/09
Granted, our room was $239 is a deal for this hotel. But for that we had a room with only one nightstand (had to use a chair) $16.00 for internet is ridiculous these days, and parking $48 a night was high. Went to dining room at 6:25a.m., wide open with staff sitting and talking. I began to come in and was told to wait in the lobby for five minutes. Bar was so incredibly noisy that we could not converse. They have closed the main opulent dining room for dinner. For simple traditional breakfast (eggs, bacon, etc.,) is $19, coffee $5.00, danish $5.00.

Classic SF Elegance
By Tony, 5/12/09
The Palace Hotel is truly old, elegant San Francisco with all of the modern conveniences. From the breath-taking Garden Court to the relaxed Pied Piper, the Palace offers everything to make your stay a memorable, classy one in one of the nation's best hotels. Five star service, beautiful, plush rooms; great location near Union Square, the highways, and the Financial District with parking options very close by (in addition to valet). For business, pleasure, or a romatic getaway, you cannot go wrong with one of traditional San Francisco's best hotel experiences: The Palace.

Don't waste your money here!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/12/08
This Hotel was horrible! I booked a suite for the LLS Man & Woman of the Year Awards event on Saturday, May 10, 2008. Check in was at 3:00pm but they made me wait until 4:15pm before letting me up to my room because they weren't done cleaning it. I called room service to send up 3 extra ice buckets. After 30 minutes, I called again for those ice buckets. After waiting another hour, they only sent up 2 buckets, not 3 like I requested. The dinner event ended a 10:30pm and I had a small get together with other LLS guests in my suite. At midnight, a hotel security guard with a heavy Russian accent banged on the door. He told me that no private parties were allowed and all non-register guest had to leave immediately. His attitude was so rude... like he was acting like he was the KGB or something. I was shocked and angry!!! My guest didn't want any problems for me, so they all left. I highly recommend anyone and everyone to consider another hotel when staying in San Francisco. Either the Hilton or the Nikko is way better that this place.

Almost Perfect
By Jillian, 2/22/08
I don't expect much from a hotel, I've never stayed in one as ornate as the palace, and the history is still present, wich makes you stop and appreictiate the design. Once inside your room...not so great! I tried to make coffee in the morning...there is no coffee pot in the room, but then there is a flat screen plasma tv...also it was double occ. and thre was only a single sink! I went down to the pool...it's nothing short of a lap pool. If there are two other people in the gym it makes it feel crowded. But If your not planning on spending to much time in the hotel it's in a great location with 3 exits to diffrent parts of the city. Clean and friendly, staff is great, they allow pets, but rooms need work!!!

The Best SF Has To Offer
By jeff_modesitt, 6/3/07
Grand elegance is the only way to describe this hotel. Just the right amenities, the right location, the right room appointments, the right hotel staff, perfect...perfect...perfect. Step back in time when the world turned a little slower, and the small things mattered. A pleasant surprise awaits all who stay here!!!

Location location location...
By Michelle, 5/15/07
The hotel was lovely. The restaurant where we enjoyed breakfast has the most gorgeous decor and the glow from the high-ceilinged skylights was worth seeing even if we weren't staying there. The location was the key selling point. We walked to nearly all of our many destinations. The only thing I would have changed is the...gulp...$48 a day parking fee.

Nice but not good for business/family trip
By John, 5/7/07
The hotel is very nice and the staff is attentive, but I brought my family on a short business trip and found it difficult to do any work. The rooms are too small to work there with someone else in the room and there are no other places in the hotel to do any work. I had to sit in the small lobby and get room service to bring my something while I worked.
