Sunshine, rock stars, and relaxation, oh my!
The Grafton on Sunset offered a great break for three stressed-out Midwesterners. The outdoor pool was crystal clear and we spent many hours relaxing in the sunshine on lounges while drinking the complimentary, freshly-brewed iced tea.
The location of the hotel is spectacular: West Hollywood is known for it's hip, rocker vibe including clubs such as Johnny Depp's Viper Room; music stores (the indie Amoeba is a standout that showcases live performances); music stores by the dozen; eclectic boutiques; and excellent dining.
If West Hollywood is a bit too quirky for you, a quick cab ride will speed you to the chi-chi Beverly Hills. If you want to see the beaches, a longer cab ride will transport you to the Santa Monica Pier.
After basking in the sun or shopping until you drop, you will want to relax, and the Grafton offers the most comfortable beds that these weary travelers have ever slept in. Also, the bathtubs are nice and long, which works out well for this leggy six-footer. There are organic bath products (you'll want to take the bar of oatmeal soap home) to pamper your sunburt skin with, and fluffy bathrobes to cuddle up in.
If you don't feel like leaving the room, you can entertain yourself with the in-room Nintendo games, and order yourself a first-class meal (or a midnight snack) from the Boa Steakhouse.
The Grafton staff is friendly and helpful and make it their mission to ensure that guests have a wonderful time while in California. A shuttle car will transport you, free-of-charge, to anywhere within a two-mile radius, and, like everywhere in Los Angeles, a valet service is offered.
If you're looking for an exceptional hotel where you just might share your elevator and pool space with famous musicians (this traveler did!), check out and check in to the Grafton on Sunset.
