rude, dirty, never again!!
By jolie, 5/9/11
The hotels are right off the main road. We were drawn to the hotel because it is cute. That is the only nice thing I can say. The towels were dirty, like they were used without being cleaned. My socks got dirty walking in the hotel room, the molding was peeling away around the tub, the water pressure was low but mostly, the owners girlfriend was so rude to us. Shewas on the phone wwhen we walked in and kept shouting "don't let the dog out" over and over even though we heard her the first time, and we were not going to let her dog out. It went down from there. I will never stay there again and will never recommend it to anyone.

Great Stay!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/9/10
On my husband and I's trip up to Portland the weather got a little nasty. Mount Shasta was the next town we hit so we decided to stay the night and let the weather clear up. We searched the town until we found The Woodsman Hotel. The price was reasonable and the room was definitely comfortable . They have clean white down comforters and an inclusive breakfast at their sister hotel across the street. We decided to make that our official spot to stop on out way to Portland!

Never Again......
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/1/09
Took my daughter on a trek through NorCal...Eureka, Grants Pass and back down to Shasta and then Sacto back to SoCal. Saw this place on the Internet...and it looked great in the pics. In reality, the place was pretty dowdy. My 12 year-old daughter wanted to stay somewhere else and I felt bad telling her we were committed to this dump. I find it hard to believe that tehse rooms were remodeled 2 years ago...more like 50. Pricey for the area and dumpy...I would pass if I were you. Seeing the positive reviews about this place makes one wonder if these folks have relatives that stay there.....

Previous false information
By Amanda, 10/20/08
I love this place but am very displeased with the previous review.. The woodsman hotel and lodge is a complete non smoking facility, and it is stated on all of the receits that are signed by each individual that checks into this establishment. It is very well known (and stated on the reciept) that there is a $200.00 minimun smoking and damage fee that they are very strict about. All of the employees are absolutely loving and love to make all of the guest there smile, and enjoy the setting of a beautiful place.

ripped off for $200 Very Dissatisfied!
By auntiedote, 10/18/08
Woodsman hotel overcharged us $200. They said it was for smoking in their room. The first thing i did was ask for a 'smoking room'. Why didn't they tell me then there was no smoking. There are NO signs posted at ALL. Their hotel clerk, the one who made us a deal on the room, called me back to lower the price, walked by our room seeing us smoking and did not tell us not to smoke. THAT IS A LAW, the public establishment must ask you not to smoke. No signs, didn't ask us not to smoke and we specifically asked for a smoking room. I call that predatory. I spoke to the manager Amanda and she said she would speak to the director. I wrote and called her 10 times in the last 2 months i have been trying to resolve this issue. Why did they do this to unsuspecting customers? I had been traveling for a week when we stayed at the Woodsman and EVERY other hotel/motel we stayed at ALWAYS posted a sign outside the door. Why did they do this? to make extra cash in their slow time. What's up with that?? i will right again to keep you posted on our resolution. Hope to hear from them soon. Or i was thinking of writing the owner, they may not know they are disobeying our laws by their current practices. Why say you will call back and not do so. Who are in charge at this place? Very dissatisfied!!

Great stay
Reading the earlier reviews misrepresent what the hotel is currently like. The staff are amazing, the rooms are clean, we were given a fully renovated room but the new carpet smell was too much. We stayed in a room without new carpet, the beds were good the bathrooms were great, we had problems with hot water but it was fixed immediately. The breakfast was good and, though we did not try it, other people said the wine hour was fun. The main lodge is relaxing, there is a free pool table, and wi-fi works in most rooms. The new owners are trying hard to make the place better. The hotel across the street is owned by the same people with a few more amenities but not worth the extra $'s/ I looked at other hotels and though this was not the cheapest it was the best that I saw. We stayed 3 nights. Improvement- better lighting and a clock in the room.

Displeased
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/4/08
Very disappointed. The website misrepresents the rooms at the Woodsman Hotel. They are nothing like what is pictured. Killed quite a few spiders. The room was tiny, no closet, one mirror, which is in the bathroom only. Rooms are painted very dark and lighting in the rooms is horrible. Beds were clean, but clearly the floor hasn't been mopped in quite a while and the door was smudged with dirt. What is more upsetting is that I paid $129 per night. I've stayed in bigger and clean hotels that were less than that, so it wasn't worth it. On a positive note, the employees who assisted me were nice and friendly.

This will be a regular stopover place!
By Satisfied Guest, 5/28/08
We drive from San Diego to a vacation home in Bend, OR and typically stay overnight in Mt Shasta to break up the drive. We've stayed at several other spots and found this one this past month. We had our dog with us this time and needed a place that was dog friendly. The Woodsman was a very pleasant surprise. From what I understand in talking with some locals at Lily's Restaurant, this is a new family that has recently taken over the motel and are just about finished renovating all rooms. Although the rooms are small, they were extremely well done! The bedding is first rate, very comfortable bed and linens. The room was clean and the breakfast was very good. There is also a happy hour with wine/cheese hosted by their B&B "Strawberry Inn" just across the street. Nice touch! I was surprised by the negative comments - perhaps this was prior to the new owners and renovations but I found the place quaint, comfortably and fairly priced. We typically make this drive every couple of months and the Woodsman will be our regular stopping point!

MUST STAY HERE
By samantha, 5/4/08
When we arrived in mount shasta we drove the perimeter of the town looking for a decent hotel. Right as we were getting a little frustrated, a beautiful lodge came in our sight. The Woodsman offered all the great ammenities a luxury hotel would have minus the luxury hotel price .It was extremely decently priced especially considering the inclusive wine and cheese hour, and EXTENDED contintal breakfast. If your looking for a comfortable and memorable stay in mount shasta woodsman hotel is for you. Things i didnt mention... 1. DOWN COMFORTERS 2.FULL ACCESS TO THE LODGE 3. POOL TABLE 4.MOVIE NIGHT 5.GREAT LOCATION

New Owners - New Experience
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/7/08
The renovations are outstanding. The new owners have done a great job with the transformation. I would recommend it! The snow made it extra beautiful.
