Terrible Place! Do Not Ever Stay Here!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/16/11
1) The A/C went out just after we arrived and the room was 85-90 degrees. 3 days later when checking out' it was still not fixed. Said the part needed was not available. A big city like SF and no part? Unbelievable! 2) Parking was $25/night with in & out priv.,but we were not told that anyone could park in their garage, even though there was a sign saying "Hotel guests only". After returning Fri. nite, the garage was full! After some talking with the host and some few choice words, our car was squeezed in with another irate guest. The rest of our stay, the car was left in the garage. This was the worst hotel we have ever stayed in and I will tell everyone we know never to consider it. In particular, the rudeness of the help was agrevating. 3) After some bickering, we did manage to have the parking fee eliminated.

Great stay
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/19/10
The staff are extremely helpful and friendly. The rooms are basic, but clean and comfortable. The restaurant (Mum) is nice for for an inexpensive beer (Heinken/Sapporo, etc.) and bite to eat. The dumplings in soup is super cheap ($5.00) and delicious. They also have some inexpensive Sonoma wine. The server recommended another dish - fried rice wrapped in omelet with seafood ($10.00). If you are on a budget, go to the local Japanese groceries stores and get a cheap and filling meal. I took cabs - about $10.00 to get downtown core, but I could saved more by taking the bus, which is very easy and right across from the hotel. Wearing heels and such made it more difficult. Grab a shuttle to and from the airport - much cheaper than taking a taxi. The only thing I didn't like was lack of little convenient nicieties - like bottled water. I went to the fourth floor to grab some, but the machine only takes dollar bills. When I got the change, the machine was out of water! Soda was only a $1.00! I would definitely be back . Nice safe hotel.

A Decent Japanese Style Hotel
By Cesar, 7/22/08
Stayed here for 3 nights. The japanese theme really goes well with the neighborhood as japantown shopping center is directly accross the street. Loved the food around there (gotta try belly good crepes!!) and atmosphere. The hotel had comfortable beds though I was disappointed that my room looked very plain compared to the other rooms. The room comes with a water heater (for coffee or teas they give you), a nice flat screen tv, giant bean bag, and complementary shampoos, lotions and soaps. The air conditioner would always blow out hot air (it was set to 68 degrees and ambient temperature was 75) but it balanced out by opening one of the windows to let in the cold San Francisco air. Overall the staff was friendly, check in and check out was quick, and room service was awesome. I would caution that the basement parking lot has very limited spaces, about 20 or so, and you might have to stay at the japan town shopping center parking although they re-imburse you the parking fee. I would definitely recommend!

Good value for money
By Cat, 4/1/08
We stayed for 7 nights and loved it. The location was really handy, good for buses and nearby to decent bars and restaurants. The staff were helpful. The room was clean and modern (and I am pretty fussy about cleanliness) and pretty quiet (apart from one night and some neighbours shouting). It was great value for money in my opinion, nothing fancy but very decent, and I would recommend the hotel.

We had a great time
By Mom, 8/15/07
My family of four had a great time at the Hotel Tomo. The rooms are pretty standard hotel fare, but decorated with anime wallpaper and cool dorm-like pine furniture. The wifi worked, the rooms were clean, and the showers were good. What more do any of us need? We also had great fun eating the shabu shabu specialty downstairs for dinner one night...you might want to make reservations. I enjoyed the balcony rooms, but the "alcove" rooms are bigger. Don't count on parking in the garage...30 spaces and 100+ rooms, so you do the math. We did find street parking within a couple of blocks every night. The staff was polite and helpful to me.

great choice for SFO
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/19/07
We enjoyed staying there for almost 10 days. The room was big enough for my toddler daughter to run around. It was fairly clean. It is located in a very convenient and quiet neighborhood. There are more than a dozen great inexpensive japanese restaurant around the corner, and there are more a few japanese grocery stores that you can grab lunch box, fresh fruit from. The beds are very good also. We really liked it. We definitely recommand this hotel in SFO!

good value in Japantown
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/23/06
I liked that it was quiet, and still accessible to all the tourist areas by public transport. You could take bus line 38 on Geary st. and be in Union Square which our kids enjoyed. The hotel was clean and comfortable, not noisy, though we were on the top floor, may have nade a difference Wireless internet was free, but available only in the lobby.Wired internet was charged by the minute.
