El Adobe Inn, Monterey

WORST HOTEL STAY EVER!!! The hotel is owned by a couple who lives in the hotel. The couple apparently do not talk to one another because when I booked 1 night I was told all other nights would be the same rate. Well when going the following morning she charged my card more for the night before and wanted to charge me $30.00 more for the second night. She rang the card up before ever telling me the price. When I received the receipt I was upset at how much she had over charged me then gave me a refund for the correct amount. Apparently she did not do it correctly because my bank had to fight for the amount to be refunded and it took over a month to go through. Had that been my only problem then I would not of been so inclined to write this review. The hotels front desk is not open all the time. They close sometime around 10:00-8:00. So if you are like our neighbors and lock yourself out of your room you will be sleeping in your car until 8:00 the next morning. Also with no one checking the status of its guest or watching the hotel at night it allows for our fellow guest who were young adults/teenagers to go skinny dipping in their jacuzzi and have sex. They choose 12:00 to get undressed in their rooms then streak down to the jacuzzi were they all bumb naked jumped in and the 6 of them proceeded to go about having intercourse. SO if you do happen to stay there do not use the jacuzzi. There were two main reasons we choose to stay here one was continental breakfast the other was that they allowed pets. These "services" offered are absolute crap. Their continental breakfast is toast and orange juice thats it!! To put on your toast all they give is butter. The cups they have to drink the orange juice are the size of a shot glass. They also advertise that pets can stay for $15.00 a night per pet and if they thing the pet is to big they will charge more and if the pet. However they have no reasonable place for them to relieve themselves. They require that you agree to take your pet across 4 lanes of traffic up to the park where there are tons of homeless people who sleep there at night to relieve your pet. If your dog is like mine they need to pee late at night and early in the morning so you have to walk across the street away from people to where these homeless people who are looking for your money stay. And they will bother you and ask for whatever you can give them. If your pet happens to pee on the way offer there they will charge you for it. The upsides to this place is the maid staff does an amazing job!! The place is spotless and looks great. The place is nicely decorated!! However it is extremely outdated the place is small and outdated. It needs the heating and air updated since they consider heat as a gas heater placed in your room that may or may not work. The air is a fan that barely works. So if you plan on staying there make sure you do not care what the temperature of the place is. My recommendations are travelodge if you have pets and want continental breakfast. However if you dont the motel 6 on Fremont is nice but does not have a fridge or microwave. But place is cleaned and staff is nice.

My fmaily and I are from Ireland and took a trip to Calafornia end of June and the El-Adobe Inn was a great place to stay, we really liked the location as it was so near to many of Monterey's attracations, the rooms we had were clean, well presented and roomy. The staff were very polite and helpful too which really helps. I would like to reccomend this hotel to others who want a simple, hassle-free place to stay. I stayed with my family of 4 and had 2 rooms although you can also get a family room that will fit 4. The rooms were suitable for the kids as there was internet access which they loved! If we ever pass through this city again, we will most definatley stay here! Rebecca

This was a brilliant motel! I travelled to Monterey in June 2007 and would definatley reccomend staying here. The value was really good, the accomodation was great and the staff were very helpful and friendly. Having stayed here for the first time, I will most definatley reccomend this place to people who want to chill out (as the British would say!) and have easy access to the towns many attractions, especially the Aquarium! The El Adobe Inn is a very well kept property in close vicinity to downtown Monterey, Cannery Row and The Warf. The rooms are newly renovated, very clean, and very very friendly staff. This hotel offers the quality and great service of big hotels, with the prices of a smaller property. Will definetly come again.

Our stay at El Adobe Inn was very relaxing and enjoyable. Rooms were very clean, office staff was very friendly. It is a cute littel motel located within walking distance from downtown. Kids enjoyed the free and healthy continental breakfast. We will definitely be coming back to visit and stay.

Dumpy rooms, low class atmosphere, dangerous route to walk dogs to, too far from room for convienece - crossing busy 4 lane highway with oncoming turning traffic when walk signal is lighted. Muggy, no ventilation, no air. Decor ugly and cheap. Staff friendly and polite, this was the only positive aspect. Will not go there again. No nearby restraurants, only a "liqour" store on coroner. Outside of motel nice and clean, inside of rooms not as pictured on website AT ALL!!!! Embarassed that I had my family stay a night there.
