Sheraton Park Hotel Anaheim = lame
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/15/11
1 of 5 stars (I only give it 1 star because it's not possible to give it -1 stars)
Pros:
- reasonably close to Disneyland (15 minute walk)
- clean lobby and rooms
- Starbucks close by
Cons:
- poor customer service (both hotel & corporate)
- $15 charge for internet
- $15-20 for parking
- extra charge depending on which side of the hotel you're on
- rooms sorta old school, but updated
- beds - like prison beds with extra pillows
- rough sheets
My first mistake was booking our rooms directly with the hotel. Doing so, you have no recourse if a problem should arise Note to self: Do not book reservations directly with the hotel; use an online travel site - there are many good ones to choose from. Once I had an issue with a reservation I made using travelocity and they were able to resolve the issue quickly.
My issue began when the Sheraton Park Hotel at the Anaheim Resort notified me that my reservation did not include the entire weekend. Meaning I would have to check out Saturday morning, not Sunday as I (and three other couples) had planned. Because I made my reservation directly with the hotel, I had no one else on my side and was forced to deal directly with the hotel. I can best describe this process as pulling your own teeth with rusty pliers. I should note that I was sent a reservation confirmation email, which I failed to review, but I make dozens of hotel reservations a year and never had to review one in the past - Thank you Holiday Inn, Hilton, etc.
After 7 hours of sitting in the lobby and wandering the hotel with my 3 year old, I was told a room was available, but at the full rack rate of $190 (the other couples I stayed with paid $119 using online sites). By this time, it was 8 PM and we were happy to have any room... and any room meant a room on the first floor with a great view of the parking lot and a large camper parked just outside our door. We were charged an additional $30 for a "fireworks" view, which really means access to the parking lot to watch fireworks.
The hotel was clean and the rooms where nice. On the downside:
- the sheets on the bed were made out of a polyester blend and made a sound like someone wearing corduroy pants when you moved in bed.
- Internet is not free. A charge of $15 per night. The connection was pretty fast, but shut down at midnight.
- Parking is $15 or $20 per night depending on who you talked to. There was plenty of space to park, however.
- It's about a 15 minute walk to Disneyland, but I think that is the case with most hotels in the area.
- Oh yeah, the elevators. If you're in a hurry, it's quicker to walk 8 flights of stairs that wait for the elevators. As luck would have it, the elevators on our side were out of service for a bit.
- It is more than clear the hotel staff is only there to get you into a room. If you have any issue, good luck.
- Also, I guess they book a lot of weddings on weekends and the noise and lack of parking is evident at night.
