not worth it
By Divina, 09/24/08
The parking was horrendous. The spaces were so tight and if you dont have a compact care be very careful manuvering. I cant believe we had to pay $14.00 per night for parking!. We could not find the elevator and we felt vulnerable and unsafe in that part of town. Did not enjoy the walk to gas lamp. They assigned us to a room in timbucktoo which was unacceptable to lug our bags to so I requested a closer room to the elevator and they complied. The only good thing was the breakfast and getting out of there fast. The atm in the lobby was convenient because I did not feel safe looking for a place to get cash in town.

We would stay here again
By Yahoo User, 07/09/08
We really enjoyed the location. You can walk to the Gas Lamp district and to Balboa Park. We checked in early so we didn't get a room with a good view or a balcony and decided that was OK since we didn't plan to spend a lot of time in the room anyway. But next time we'll request a room on the poolside of the hotel with a balcony. It would've been really nice to sit there at sunset with a drink. Continental breakfast was great and fresh. Get there early for fresh coffee. I thought the pillows were great. You get a choice of soft through firm and its embroidered on the edge of the case to let you know which is which. The the elevators were under renovation during our stay. Hopefully it was to increase their speed because they were mega slow. That's my only complaint. We used the stairs to go to the 3rd floor whenever possible.

Just returned
By eric, 03/17/08
My husband and I just returned from San Diego and stayed at the Holiday Inn Express. We were very pleased with the staff, location, breakfast, quietness, shuttles and room. We definitely will return next year to San Diego and will book this hotel. We did not have a car but heard that the parking lot is a bit hard to maneuver. With all of that said, we had a very good 10 day stay.

Will NOT be back
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/23/07
The parking garage was joke. A guest should not have to pay for parking. This garage is too small to park A full size Truck. I took 15 minutes to get up to the 2nd level, once we pulled into a parking spot, my truck stuck way out in the drive. On of my other family members caved in the side of his truck trying to get up to garage ramps. The bathroom are too small. They need to have the sink and mirror outside the shower area. We were always downstairs getting more towels. Leaving one towel per room. One night I requested more towels be left in my room. Wen came back later to find my room being left open by one of staff members. The TV has very limited stations. The air in the room never cooled the room. They also need to invest in new cloth dryer in the laundry room. It took 1 1/2 hr. to dry on load.

Not bad

The hotel was clean and pleasant - but I was a little disappointed that we had to pay for parking in addition to our room charge.

Beautiful View
By Kathleen, 06/27/06
The rooms at this hotel are quite well done for the price. The views are unbeatable and the location could not be more perfect for walking around. The bathrooms are a bit small, but the rooms have mini-fridges and a large balcony.

"There ain't no such thing as free parking!" Despite the information provided somewhere here at Yahoo!Travel, the parking was not free. Parking will set you back $9.00 a night. As for parking your head, the pillows were a joke. As for parking your butt, the bathroom was too small and not well laid out -- not enough room to work. We did have a good view, the place was pretty clean, and apparently room renovations are underway.

Keep looking!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/05/05
I didn't even stay here - I went to a seminar at this hotel, and couldn't believe how run-down and ghetto it is. The parking garage is confusing, dark, and felt very unsafe. The paint was chipped over the whole building, and the slow, creaking elevators were scrawled with graffiti. People, if room rates were free I would still discourage you from staying there. This hotel should be condemned.
