Great Location!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/28/10
Walking distance to the Ferry, Union Sq, Chinatown..etc! Room was good, not great for the price. Only thing about Market St is all the homeless people that is so rude and aggressive begging for money and calling you names if you dont give them any. Transients in NYC has more class!

Running the mini bar scam....
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/14/10
I think this hotel is ineptly running the "mini bar scam". My first billing had a charge for candy, not eaten, so I called and had it removed, thinking that handled the error. But at check-out one hour later there was a bottle of wine, not drank, charged on the bill. That too was cheerfully removed. The willingness to remove the items without checking if the items were actually used tells me they were added on purpose with the hope they would not be caught until later, which would be too late. Not going back there.......

Not to happy
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/13/10
I have normally stayed at the Marriott on 3rd. The saying goes you really appreciate the little things when you don’t have them. Comparing it to the Marriott on 3rd this place was absolutely horrible. I stayed in room 2910. I believe we arrived around noon time. While checking in I wanted to order room service for lunch. I was told there was no room service until later in the afternoon. This was our first disappointment. The next little issue was half the electrical outlets in the room didn’t work. I didn’t realize this until the following morning when I had a dead cell phone. There were no outlets at all where the coffee maker was placed. When we moved it to a working outlet the coffee maker kept shutting off. Come to find out the coffee maker was bad. After contacting the front desk I think it only took two or three days to get us another coffee maker. The thermostat stat in the room was not accurate. Temperature was on 68 felt more like 78. My girlfriend and I visit Del Dotto Winery in Napa and brought back some wine glasses with their logo on them. (Yes, this was the day I had a dead cell phone and my office couldn’t contact me) The following day when we came back to our room we noticed both glasses were sitting out side our door. They were on our neighbor’s food tray they had set outside their door from room service. Apparently housing keeping cleaned our room and mistaken the wine glasses for theirs. When we mentioned to them about leaving the glasses alone, all they did was smile. Found out later they spoke very little English. I will say the front desk did try to make it better by contacting the Marriott for us. They also suggested switching us to another room. At this point I was just going to deal with it. I didn’t want to pack up everything and move to another hotel or room especially at night after coming in from Napa. When we went to checkout I also noticed multiple charges that weren’t ours. These additional charges were removed. When asking how did this occur? I got a reply back; this mistake happens to the best of the hotels. I’m 48 years of age and this is the first time additional charges were placed on a hotel bill of mine. I wasn’t too happy about this. On a plus side our bed was very comfortable and the room was quite. The hotel was very clean I just didn’t like the lay-out at all. It wasn't worth the money. I was expecting much nicer. Would I stay there again, never. Joe from Covina

nice hotel, bad internet
By Aline S, 3/20/10
Convenient location - a block from the bart to/from SFO, easy walking to Union Square, a block from Mel's diner on Mission, yet it's not directly on Market, which cuts down the noice a little. Nice sized rooms, cumfy bed, everything was clean. Only problem was the internet. After running diagnostics with the tech at the internet serive company, found out that my room was part of a whole section that had no internet. I was able to pick up a faint wireless signal, but it was more reliable at the Starbucks across the street. If you're traveling on business, my recommendation would be to check the internet as soon as you get into the room so they can switch you if necessary.

stolen camera
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/7/08
Great location. If you go for the breakfast, stick with the buffet. We didn't and the food was cold and didn't get enough for the high price tag. They seem to cater more to the buisness guest on expense accounts. Left an expensive camera in the nightstand. Was relieved to hear no one else checked in after me. However, the cleaning lady said she didn't find it... so I contacted security who promised to question her and get back to me. I'm still waiting.... Loved San Fran but wouldn't go back to the Westin on market.

Info on parking, restaurants, etc. (long)
By Matt, 4/30/08
My visit to SF included excursions to Yosemite, Marin County, and Big Sur, so I rented a car. The parking situation near the Westin was far easier than I had feared. The hotel charges about $45-$50 per day for valet parking, but not to worry -- there are two huge parking decks directly across 3rd Avenue from the hotel. 3rd Avenue is a busy one-way street with 3-4 lanes. Jaywalking is easy, but to cross to the hotel legally, you have to walk 1/2 a block to a crosswalk, then another 1/2 block back up to the entrance. Definitely worth a little extra effort to save the money, IMO. Hearst Parking Center is recognizable as having an Office Depot and California Pizza Kitchen at its ground level. It charges $20 per 24 hours, and there was plenty of availability every day I was there. The only downside of Hearst is that it doesn't open until 6 a.m. Monday-Saturday, and not until 10:00 a.m. on Sunday. You can't get your car out of the deck when it's closed, so beware if you have an early flight out of town. Just across the alley from Hearst is Tower Valet. Tower charges $21/day and is open 24/7. The downside is that their "day" resets every morning at 6:00 a.m. So for example, if you park there at noon on day 1, you have to have your car out by 6:00 a.m. on day 2 to limit the charge to $21. It also appeared to have PLENTY of available spaces. I street parking is free in most areas of the city on Sunday. I parked on the street Sunday night about 2 blocks away from the Westin without any problem. Just make sure you don't park on a curb that is scheduled for a street sweeper overnight. As for restaurant recommendations, Pazzia is a small family-owned Italian Restaurant about 2-3 blocks toward AT&T park from the Westin. The food was very good, plentiful, and less than $20 per entree. They also do take-out orders. Chaat Cafe serves Indian food, also very good and about $10-$12 per dish. On the same block with the Westin is a Subway, Quizno's, California Pizza Kitchen, and a liquor store. The hotel was nice too. Heavenly beds are as good as advertised.

All Show, No Go
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/30/07
For these rates, I expect more. It has location going for it, and nice beds (but with terrible pillows.) After that, not good. The room was decent enough, but the checkin was horrible, 10 minute wait and was first in line. It was all "Thank you very much, excellent, and "we were booked full last night, so your room isn't ready" at 3p in the afternoon. $14.95/night for high speed internet, which I just measured at worse than dialup speed. I've paid much less for better service in New York! No room amenities (no shower cap, one bathrobe?) This place is a thin veneer over standard hotels - not worth the price.

HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/29/07
AMBIENCE AND LOCATION Arriving at the Westin on Christmas Day 2007 was a festive experience. The hotel was decorated beautifully for the holiday season. The location was excellent. The view of downtown San Francisco was breathtaking. The Westin is close to everything! HOTEL ROOMS AND CUSTOMER SERVICE We bought multiple rooms and each of the rooms were awesome! The comfort level of the beds were divine. The shower was wonderful. The customer service was impeccable. Need I say more? Yes. With no relation to the hotel, we had to request the assistance from the front desk manager, Jeff, and he went above and beyond the call of duty with his personal attention to detail. RECOMMENDATION: HIGH We HIGHLY RECOMMEND the Westin on Market Street to anyone. We could not have asked for anything more.

love it - love it
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/29/07
Room had a breathtaking view. Ask to stay above 15th floor! Service was outstanding especially at consierge...see Connnor for all your needs. He fixes whatever you want. Jesters was being refurbished so I was disappointed...but other than that glitch...I recommene this hotel highly. Can't get a better location, price and service!!!
