Smokers stay away
By mark m, 10/16/09
I stayed at the Island Hotel in Newport Beach , California on the dates of September 12-15th. The hotel wrongly accused me of smoking in my room and burning a hole in their carpet. I had booked a suite for a business conference I was attending. I do smoke and was smoking on the outside patio of the room. I was never informed I could not smoke outside of the room and there was no card or any notification in the room telling me I could not smoke outside on the patio. Apparently the maid did not like the ash tray I left out on the patio and informed management I was smoking in the room. This was a blatant lie. I do try to be a courteous smoker and do not like the odor myself. I can sure understand the hotel not allowing smoking in their rooms, but apparently they are trying to make some example of me and not allow people to smoke outside. I am not a complainer but I will not be set up to have fraudulent charges billed to me because of some incompetent managers personal vendetta. I have no intension of paying the fraudulent “clean-up” charges that were applied to my credit card. The manager’s name is Lisa Carpenter. As you can tell by my history also I have spent several thousands of dollars with the Four Seasons Hotels over the years. That will now stop unless I receive a letter of apology from them. I did not complain about the hair in the sink upon check-in, I did not complain about a man firing up a crack pipe in the hot tub, and I did not complain about the woman exposing her breasts at the bar but since they are advertizing to be a family friendly hotel and they charge people for things that were not authorized and try to conduct a totalitarian type business at this hotel then maybe all of this should be investigated. For Dog Lovers Only
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/07/06
I was very upset with the fact that the hotel was so pet friendly that they allowed All Dogs regardless of breed or friendliness. There are no restrictions on bringing dogs except that you pay for your dogs. They can use all of the elevators, stay in any room, on any floor, be friendly or not, be a Great Dane, a Pit Bull or a toy Poodle. I was shocked to see a Great Dane in the lobby one day. Do not stay in the hotel if you are allergic to dogs or if you are afraid of certain types of dogs. When the elevator stops and the doors open up I was always looking to see whether a giant dog would be getting off.

Relaxing place
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/25/05
This place is definitely a place I would advise a person to stay at least once. The staff and ammenities are far above the rest in the area. Four Seasons definitel caters to their guests every need.

In the center of it all!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/24/05
It was our first trip to the west coast (April 2005)and we found heaven. Four Seasons New prt Beach was in the center of everything southern California had to offer: Huntington Beach, Laguna Beach, SanDiego, LA, Hollywood. And in pulling up to the hotel in the center of Fashion Island: you would never need to pack. the gym was complimentary and state of the art with friendly attendants offring fruit and water when needed. the pool and hot tub was secluded as if on an island. The concierge was either and knowledge about where the locals go and places that wouldn't break the bank. also the view was amazing from out room which was huge, clean and well appointed. On the last night we ate downstairs by the lobby bar. The bartenders and waitstaff were hilarious. It was if we were old frieds talking up a storm. The food was AMAZING! and for the price well worth it. I think it was definitely the place to be. oh, and if you have never slept in a Four Seasons bed...a dream. i wouldn't change a thing except stay longer! Even valet was helpful and in short we felt spoiled on our trip. The hotel wasn't stuffy like most people would think and we got a great rate.

Great For Shopping
By Julia, 07/12/04
This is a beautiful hotel for Shopping. It is located at an upscale outdoor shopping mall (Fashion Island). It is about a mile from the beach (1/2 mile to the back bay). If you are planning to spend a lot of time at the beach, DO NOT STAY HERE! You will need to drive to the beach and parking in Newport beach is worse than bad!
If you want an upscale beach hotel you can choose from the Balboa Bay club (on back bay, i.e. pollution), Ritz Carlton Laguna Niguel (10 mi away) or Montoge, Laguna Beach (7 Mi away).
