Life is Good!
By LT, 6/3/10
I'm not quite sure how to explain it but our trip to Carmel was simply good for the soul and the Colonial Terrace was certainly a part of that.. I could have been the close proximity to the beach that we don't experience often. The sound of the waves a night. The elegance of the lobby setting as we ate breakfast each morning. The views of the ocean from the comfort of our bed. The beautiful spring flowers amongst the garden landscaping. Walks along the beach into the village. An inspirational cruise down to Big Sur or the casual relaxation of wine tasting in Carmel Valley. The dinners at Little Napoli. The European character of downtown Carmel or the rugged historical feel of Fisherman's Wharf in Monterey. And the list goes on ... Whatever it was, the staff was able to offer us ideas and suggestions to experience all of the above. We found comfort in historical nature of the property that harkens back to another time before the concrete and steel of cookie cutter hotel rooms. The imperfections were not a distraction but rather a reminder of how good life can be amid the stress of the modern world. I will be daydreaming about a return visit for some time.

Truly Disappointing Behavior
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/20/08
Never accept room #6. This $250/ night room is located next door to the maid service/employee quarters where loud chatter, banging doors, and service carts wake you up at 8 am. Don't bother to complain at the reception desk because every hotel employee either quickly dismisses your complaints or feigns surprise that room #6 has noise issues. This conduct is offensive and truly disappointing given the pricey rates and supposed good reputation of this hotel.

We are going back in September
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/10/07
We loved this place because it was very quiet and very clean. My husband and I promised ourselves that we would be going back soon. Now, we have a wedding to go to and we would like to take our daughter and husband and their son. Have to check on reservations.

Wonderful experience at Colonial Terrace Inn!!
By Shelli, 9/26/05
What am impressive Inn! We stayed here based upon the reviews on this site, and the AAA discount. We were extremely impressed with the quality of service exhibited by staff, their knowledge of the Carmel area and business, and the rooms. We stayed in rooms #26 and 28, which were lush beyond our imagination. The deluxe continental breakfast was wonderful, and replenished frequently. The food was kept hot and cold accordingly. Our box lunch was delicious and presented wonderfully. The amenities in the rooms were a nice touch. We appreciated the fireplaces in each room, which kept us warm and toasty as the nights were chilly. The grounds are immaculately kept, and the groundskeepers take great pride and care in their work. The Inn is very close to the beach and we enjoyed the ocean view from our rooms, as well as hearing the waves roll in. We appreciated the seating in the rooms, so you could curl up with a book and relax. The whirlpool tub was an added treat. We look forward to many, many more visits to the Colonial Terrace Inn. We've already recommended it to several of our friends. The best selling point? A totally non-smoking facility. Thank you to the Colonial Terrace Inn for a fabulous time during our getaway.

Short walk to the beach!
By NicaPaisana, 8/9/05
The strong points for the Colonial Terrace are the setting and location. The grounds are well-manicured, the neighborhood it's in is very charming (the "storybook" houses surround it). It took us maybe 3 minutes to walk to the beach. You could see Pebble Beach golf course from the beach. Yet it is still close to the center of Carmel. We stayed in room #7 which is on the second floor and has a front porch with a partial ocean view. It's a decent sized room (big enough for 2) and has a walk-in closet (mini fridge and coffee maker inside also). The bathroom is standard size. Fireplace was also nice. Breakfast was pretty basic (breads, cereals, yogurt, juices), but tasty :). The staff was very helpful and professional. We checked out a flashlight at the front office to take with us on our evening beach stroll at 9pm and the staff was still there, happily serving the guests. We loved our stay there...very quiet, peaceful, and you can't beat the location. Upon booking, we asked the phone rep for advice on rooms (according to our budget and what was available), they recommended room #7 for us. We were not disappointed. You may want to do the same and ask about rooms before booking.

Never again
the garden and flowers and proximity to the sea are very good. The small room and being unable to move in the shower or sit to watch a decent television are unacceptable for the price one has to pay.

Our Anniversary Getaway
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/17/04
My husband and I have been coming to the Colonial Terrace for 19 years. We started out in what was then called the "Patio Room". You had to crawl over the bed to get to the bathroom! We have now graduated to a couple of favorites. Any of the rooms that are facing the ocean are very nice. We now a our very favorite (Rm. 3). We used to come in October, but we now come during Christmas. As far as the rooms being small, it just depends which one you get. It is best to have the Innkeeper show you some of the other rooms. That way you will know in the future!

Amazing patio gardens
By TSC, 5/21/04
This hotel is several blocks off the main drag (Ocean Ave) of Carmel, which suited us just fine. I stayed at this hotel during a weekend in early may and I was amazed by the patio gardens! The flowers were absolutely spectacular. Our room was a bit small, but fine. We happened to be there when there was perfect sunny weather and enjoyed our breakfast in the patio garden. The experience really made you understand why so many people have been drawn to vacation in Carmel.
