Though it is within two blocks of Union Square and three blocks from the theater district, Larkspur Hotel Union Square anchors a relatively quiet spot in the downtown corridor. The luxurious living room and bar area provides the comforts of a home away from home. Comfy couches accent the beautiful fireplace, and a large flat screen TV in the Bar serves as a great form of entertainment during the complimentary wine reception. A dedicated concierge desk and multilingual staff assist guests with excursions and tours. Access to an extensive health club located a block from the hotel is offered at a discounted rate. The complimentary business center is also available to the guests, 24-hours a day. The property welcomes pets for no additional fee, and we would love to give the pet a welcome amenity upon arrival. Complimentary continental breakfast including juice, fruit, pastries, will be available from 7-9AM Monday through Friday and 7-10AM Saturday and Sunday. Coffee and tea service is available from 7-10 daily. In addition to the complimentary business center, guests can also access complimentary Wireless Internet throughout the property. Not happy!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/13/09
The place was what we expected. The room was small but very pretty. When we made our reservations we were told a full-serivce breakfast was included in the price. When we arrived we were told that they had changed that to a pastry and coffee. No apologies....just too bad. When we returned I received an e-mail wanting to know about our stay. I told them what happended and received no response. I e-mailed several times and never received any communications. I guess they only wanted positive responses and ignored any with complaints! Due to the lack of concern on managment's part, we are returning in the next couple of weeks...but will be staying elsewhere!

Good but would rahter go somewhere else.
By Dana James, 04/29/09
I was very excited about this hotel because it looked very clean and comfortable from the website. Parking is very expensive but that's how SF is. The service was nice. We were a young couple and this hotel seems to cater to older population. If you are young maybe you should stay somewhere else. The room was quite small but nice and clean. average for the price. I liked it but I would rather stay somewhere else next time.

Pleasantly Suprised
By StephanieW, 08/29/08
This hotel is a gem. It has a great and helpful staff, very cozy and comfortable atmosphere. The rooms are a little too cozy to stay with someone who isnt your significant other......But a great romantic getaway with a great location! Will stay again

An unforgettable visit
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/05/07
I loved the service; the agents were friendly and caring. They always greeted me with a smile and conversation, if they weren't busy with other clients. My favorite was Thai: she was funny, sharp, and a real people's person. My dislike was my small room. I could have used more space. However, other than that, my trip was memorable.

We enjoyed our stay!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/18/07
We loved our stay at The Cartwright Hotel. The location was great for first timers like ourselves. It was nice being close to the cable car line and many fine restaurants. The service was excellent from the front desk to the concierge. Everyone was very helpful and pleasant. The continental breakfast and the wine tasting was a great addition. Yes, the rooms are small but how often are you in your room while visiting San Francisco. I will tell friends about our stay.

Excellent Boutique Hotel!
By Nina Ayub, 11/16/06
Both my husband & I stayed at the Cartwright two weeks ago and we truly enjoyed ourselves. Everything was just perfect - from the location itself (close to everything), service of the hotel staff, the superb clean room, the most comfortable bed to the delicious breakfast buffet, we will definitely stay there again. Prior to Cartwright, we stayed at two different hotels, all Mobil rated and we were most comfortable in Cartwright. The Hotel has its own charm and has a character, I felt I was taken back in circa 1920's - nothing grand from the exterior but as soon as you enter the hotel you will feel right at home. Rooms are small but just nice for the two of us. The bed was so comfortable, my husband had a hard time waking up! The bathroom is clean (I am one who is very particular about bathrooms) and they come with Aveda toiletry plus cotton balls & swabs in a canister. Loved it! For the price we paid (less than the other hotels in around the area) we got so much more! The internet connection was fast & that helped us in planning our trip via 511.org or even making last minute reservations. We suggest starting your SF tour with the 3.5 hours city tour (take the ones by Tower Tour & ask for Anthony's tour - he gives the best tour!) & then decide on which district/area you want to concentrate on. A good tip is to buy the Muni Passport - saves you lots of money & it will get you all over SF. Ask the concierge for anything - they are just so helpful. Oh! and get the room facing at the back. So much quieter. You don't want to be woken up by the Cable Car bells at 6 in the morning. Enjoy your trip!

Style Comfort and Atmosphere
By Dave, 10/12/06
I loved it here. I don't think that I would want stay any where else in The City. The style was period early 1900's (Like steeping back in time). It gave you a felling of the history of San Francisco. The value was great we looked for other hotels that offered parking and none did. But The Cartwrigt did, They have a packeage that includes parking. The Rooms were small but most are in the city. It did not remind me of every other hotel i have stayed in. The beds were really comfutable( which you need after all the walking you do) and the pillows OHH those pillows. I actullaly thought about taking them home with me. The Staff was helpful and Kind. They always had smile on there face. Our last day there we didn't have to leave till late and Check out was at 11:00 a.m. and they held are bags for us untill it was time to leave. An Awsome place to stay. Don't go to any other place but The Cartwright!

Awesome!!! Great Bargain!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/12/06
I bookmarked a segment from the Today Show "Cities Under $100". When my fiance and I planned a last minute trip to SF, I knew I wanted to stay at the Cartwright. This hotel has all the charm of a boutique hotel and the location cannot be beat!! Trolly stop 1/2 block away, with "resonable for a big city" parking 1 block away. The wine reception in the evening was a nice treat each day after full days of sightseeing. There is plenty of nightlife and restraunts close by as well as sights like Union Square and Chinatown and the BART-walking distance! The breakfast buffet is great with plenty of choices. Staff was Great!!! Would stay again and will tell all my friends about it! Great deal!

Excellent choice!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/17/06
Breakfast (included) was a wonderful surprise--huge variety, including protein, fruits, fresh waffles. Wine in the lounge in the afternoon was welcome after hours of sightseeing. Staff extremely friendly and helpful. Found through Expedia but would definitely stay there again.

Great Hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/04/06
This is a small, European-style hotel in Union Square. The rooms are small, but recently remodelled ('04, I think) and very nicely done. The staff and concierge were very helpful. The hotel is located 1/2 block from the Powell-Mason/Powell-Hyde cable cars and multiple Muni bus lines; also an easy 5 block walk from the Powell St BART station. The breakfast is fabulous --- waffles, bagels, toast, muffins, cereal, fruit, yogurt, juices, etc. We would have spent at least $25 each morning for a comparable breakfast at a sit down place. Coffee and tea are available 24/7. Also, cookies from 3-4PM each afternoon, and wine tasting from 5-6PM. Great value!
