Poor Value and Over-Rated
We stayed at the Beverly Hills Hotel because of the history and its high ratings. We booked for nine nights for the hotel's least-expensive room because they do not negotiate rates and are stringent on not making deals, unlike other highly rated hotels. Upon arriving and exiting our taxi, there were numerous valet men swarming around us like bees, constantly with their hands out for tips (just for opening our doors). We were escorted up to our "garden-view room" that over-looked a roof and had partial views of the garden and hillside. During our first-night's sleep, we were constantly awoken by loud banging noises. It turned out that our room was located next to a metal threshold where luggage and carts were carelessly and constantly pushed over throughout the day and night, causing a tremendous amount of noise and discomfort next to our bed. Needless-to-say, we could not sleep most of the time we were there. We complained, but they did not accommodate. Most places would have offered an upgrade and/or suite with no extra fees/costs or discounted the room's rate but not this hotel. Nothing was inclusive at this hotel; everything costed extra and was extremely inflated. One of the worst parts was when we would take a limo to town and back, all the annoying valet men would circle around the vehicle, competing to open doors with their hands out for tips. After a while, they learned not to greet us, and we think it's because we refused to tip. Also, the staff ignored the "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door; our room was surprisingly and periodically interrupted by staff - we even had the main lock locked. They would walk in our room while we were in bed watching TV; it happened several times. In addition, the famous pool was a let-down. It was small and located next to the loud and busy Sunset Boulevard; we did not swim. However, the food and especially the room service were pricy, but the food was delicious. The gardens/walkways were encompassed of old-growth landscaping and beautiful, but this hotel lacked value. Since our disappointed stay at the Beverly Hills Hotel, we have stayed at higher-end hotels that were a fraction of what that hotel costs, and they offered inclusive packages (free breakfasts, DVD rentals, Internet, better views, larger rooms, dinner vouchers, etc.) and spoiled guests without the expectation of tips for people doing their jobs. At one time, we could understand the desirability of the hotel but not today. We would not recommend staying at the Beverly Hills Hotel.
