Thank you!
My sister, who is restricted to a wheelchair, flew in to Phoenix to meet up with me there on route to the east coast in July 2006. I was unable to meet her at the airport because I was traveling with my children, so asked her to take a taxi to the hotel where we would be staying the night. It turns out the airline broke her electric wheelchair, so she was unable to move on her own as she is accustomed to. She was finally able to obtain a wheelchair taxi, with some difficulty. Considering the size of Phoenix, Im surprised there arent more handicapped accessible taxis available. San Francisco and Vancouver had them.
To make matters worse, however, the taxi driver left her and all of her stuff, alone, on the sidewalk outside the hotel and drove away, at which point she called me and we realized she was dropped off at the wrong hotel. It was 11 pm, and 102 degrees.
Fortunately things started getting better by this point. I was staying at the Embassy Suites on Thomas Road, and she was left at the Embassy Suites on 44th St. I asked the hotel where I was to call the hotel where she was, and verified that the security guard there had found her on the sidewalk and brought her inside (thank you!). After trying to get another wheelchair taxi to pick her up and take her to the correct hotel, to no avail, Embassy Suites finally brought her over in their shuttle. To do that, the security guard had to pick her up and lift her into the front seat of the van, then drive with her to the Thomas St. Embassy Suites to lift her out of the van and back into the wheelchair.
We sincerely appreciate the assistance the security guard gave, and the cooperation of staff at both Embassy Suite hotels, in seeing that my sister was delivered safely.
Sincerely,
Anne from Flagstaff, AZ
