New Ownership - Being fixed up in 2012
By ,
Best location near Russian River & Kenai. Good food & Kenai burger. Historic tradition to stay here for fishing. New owner ripped out kitchen in Restaurant & is investing heavily in property. New mattresses, sheets, towels, sleeper couches, and hardwood floors being installed in most rental units.

I had a wonderful experience
By ,
The restaurant and bar had a great sense of character. In all of my visits to Gwin's Lodge I was welcomed with kind words and great service. Gwin's lodge stood out in my mind as a piece of history on the Kenai. As many others from the area, I will be sad to see it go.

What a dump!!!!
By ,
Gwin's Lodge is a dump and I would not suggest anyone to stay, eat, or shop there. The boss Bob Siter is rude and does nothing. The rest of the staff seemed very polite and embarrassed about the way their place of work was run. There was false advertising (no salmon bake, no bake shop, no pizza/ ice cream stand. There were tarps and machinery and just plain junk lying everywhere. If you are looking for a vacation with excellent views of a satellite dish (no working TV in bar), being treated poorly and an intestinal parasite Gwin's Lodge is the right place for you.

Unorganized Mess
By ,
We arrived and had to wait around for our room for 3+ hours. Once we got in we found out that there was a sewer problem and the toilets were backing up into the shower in many cabins. The owner Robert Siter was rude and seemed like he had no Idea what was going on. However the employees all seemed rather nice and polite even with the problems they were having to deal with. On the Third day of our stay the lodge was shut down due to E-Coli in the water system. My advice. Stay somewhere else.

Left us feeling tricked and cheated
By ,
We paid for a reserved space at the lodge at a trade show. When we called to set-up the details of the trip we had a hard time getting a return call. When we finally got a hold of someone, we were snapped at and told that the location was frozen and would need to thaw- something we were told usually happens after our winter special travel voucher expired. On the plus side, I was told they would honor our voucher during the next off-season after I pressed for their plans to accommodate travelers who had prepaid. Unexpected travel complications due to the weather can be part of the fun. If we have been called or notified about the change in their ability to host guests and offered an extension on our travel voucher upfront or offered a refund, we would have been happy and flexible. As it is, I would recommend other lodges in the area.
