Thunderbird Beach Resort, Treasure Island

My sister and I needed an inexpensive place to stay while closing up our Mom's N Miami Beach apartment. Since we made our reservations on the internet we were not sure what we would find. We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived at the Thunderbird. Although it certainly was not "elegant" by any stretch of the imagination, it was clean, right on the beach, lovely view of the ocean from the balcony, pool, spa and restaurant all were great for the price. Free parking would have been nice. I would certainly recomment this.

We drove up and the outside front was a facade, for the worst was yet to come. The best part was the outside front that looked to be in great condition. Once in the room, we all felt as though we were in a time warp to the early, bad 1970's. The smells overwhelmed you as you walked in the door. Musty odors, mold on the wall in the room and on the outdoor furniture. The TV was a 20 year old wood paneled 19 inch that took several minutes to even come on.The bedsheets were moist and the bathroom smelled rotten. My allergies began to flare up tremendously and I was having difficulty breathing from all the mold and mildew. If you think this is a nice place, then you must be blind and without any sense of smell or sight!! We are Florida residents and this place should be condemned!!! Please search elsewhere when looking to get a beautiful room with a view. I was able to find a gorgeous suite a few miles further up the road for less money. BEWARE YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED THIS PLACE IS A SAFETY HAZARD!!!

An older motel that has been maintained very well. Comfortable room. Great view of the absolutely wonderful Gulf beach. Friendly, helpful staff. Only negative was the air conditioner for our room laboring to keep the room cool. Great value for the money. Overall, we would recommend the Thunderbird to anyone.. .

We had a great stay at the beach. Our room was very clean, the view from the balcony was fantastic and the staff was excellent. The location is right where you would want to be. I enjoyed the tiki bar very much. The pool and the jacuzi were both very clean. We enjoyed two meals at Groupers. The food was great and we recieved very friendly service. Thanks to Renea and the staff. So thanks to Treasure Island Beach, The Thunderbird Hotel and Groupers for a Very Happy Birthday. We will definately be back.

I cannot believe someone gave this place and excellent review the same time I was there. This proves owners usually write their on reviews. This place stunk. The daily cleaning service was a joke. I actually took all the bed sheets off and put them in a pile on the floor to be changed. THEY PUT THEM BACK ON THE BED DIRTY. When I called the office they told me it was not their policy to change the linens without a request, then complained when I requested. We dropped a potato chip on the rug (purposely) and it was there our entire stay, along with the piece of soap in the tub. The room was never cleaned! No parking available anytime we came back, and anybody thinking Groupers has great food, most get out more often, bad food, over priced tiki bar drinks (next door at Bilmar were 1/2 the price). Talk about taking your money and running. This place was horrid.

The location for us was great to serve as a hub for St. Petersburg, Tampa and Orlando day trips. We (husband/wife/2 teenagers) ate 4 meals at Groopers-had a good selection and good meals along with very good service. The beach is wide but then it will still be there after a storm or hurricane. We used the beach a lot. The pool will help those who may think the beach is too wide but that was never a problem to us. The rooms were clean, daily service was great, all of the staff was cheerfull and helpfull. The internet connection enabled my wife and I to keep tabs on work related stuff, surf for places to eat and shop. We would go back if we vacation in the St. Petersburg area again. Definetly worth the 1050 mile drive to us.

To start off this palce WAS clean it was a great get away. The restraunt food was great didnt see any ants or lizards or crabs not sure where that is coming from. The rooms were average and this is the beach why would you expect the rooms to be awsome. Out of the hotels I have stayed down here at treasure isalnd this has been the best. It cost a little more than the other but It has a HUGE, Fairly Clean Pool An Hot Tub that isnt too hot or cold its just right! all the jets dont work There is some renovation going on but none that bothered me. And the Location IS AMAZING The Tiki Hut is Great and you get a free drink if you book online All Rooms Come with a Microwave, Tv, High Speed Wireless Internet, Small Fridge and Coffee Maker with real Cups The Cleaning staff was wonderful I told them they didnt need to clean my room tonight but asked them for a few things and they were very helpful. As for the music, Sure it wasnt the best it was a guy singing to a loop NOT a Recording... Dont be fooled he wasnt pulling an ashlee simpson! And he was great and very friendly Check in was easy The only real diffculty was parking I WILL BE BACK!!!

Here's our experience of the Thunderbird: Bad Parking (if any). Pitiful entertainment at the pool (part of the time the guy was singing to a CD, and I don't mean Karaoke). Unclean areas around sidewalks outside the rooms. Beach was extremely wide and covered with sharp peices of shell that hurt your feet. Wasn't sure which was more comfortable, the beds or the floor. Jacuzzi didn't completely work right. I've stayed in small "Mom & Pop" motels before, and this place brings down the level of what I expect from "Superior Small Lodging".

Don't believe the reviews about how fun this place is. They sound like they were written by someone who works for this dump. I too noticed the uncleanliness around the rooms, especially the ones facing the beach. The beach IS a mile wide, and the waters edge is too much of a walk to enjoy. Fun tiki bar? Fun whirl pool? The VERY SMALL tiki was surrounded by cavity stricken toothless Homer Simpson types, and the whirlpool was full of large tatooed women who really shouldn't go out in public in a swim suit. I agree with a previous user, a little extra cash will put you in a nicer place.

The rooms are average, but the fun is abundant! The beach is beautiful in this area. The Thunderbird has a great pool, fun hot tub and a great tiki hut that serves all of my favorite rum beverages! Live music on the weekends, pool side. Great family atmosphere.
