Rip off artists
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/15/08
Their staff refuses to credit me for my AAA discount even though they siad that they offered it when I booked the room. The hot tub was visibly filthy - especially around the jets. The skylight they brag about is so covered in filth it must not have been cleaned for literally 20 years. Take a pass on this place.

Good Time
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/24/08
First the positive. The room was nice and clean. The staff was quite helpful and courteous. The location was great. Private parking for the fee was convenient. Beds were very comfortable. The negative. Glass block window allowed no view. Thin walls, you could hear all conversations from the next room. I would stay again without hesitation. All beach activities and shopping are a quick walk and the theme parks are a short drive.

Don't waste your money

This place was horrible and I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. The only way we were able to get the noise to quiet down was to threaten the people that we were going to call the police. Did not get any help from the hotel personnel. This was about 2:30 - 3:00 AM. They also did not provide us with our wake up call at 4:30 AM as we had requested. Received no help from the hired help. Asked for the manager to call me the next day. No call. Finally called and was told that there was nothing that she could do about it. All and all it was just a very bad experience. It is a shame because it is a nice hotel that seems to have very poor people managing it.

The charm of Europe at the edge of the Pacific
By Charles, 04/27/06
I loved it there. I've worked out of there for business and my wife and I have enjoyed it comforts together celebrating an Anniversay; loved the room with the closet that accesses the stary sky at night. I embrace the 20's and 30's, an era before my time. Thanks to the Portofino [liken the Del Coronado] its costal ambiance endows my passion and offers me a retreat in which I can invision and live within those times.

Take 1 of the 2 ocean view rooms or Pass on this one.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/30/05
I loved that is was on the beach. Newport beach is very nice. The staff were all friendly. The bedspread and pillow shams were very dirty, the wall paper was very scratched up near chairs, the shower head provided a very weak shower, no window (only 2 rooms offer an ocean view - or ANY view). Our room had glass block that let in light, but you can not see out. There was a skylight, that was unigue for a hotel. The Tub was nice, the temp of the water changed if someone else was using water, I almost got burned when the water suddenly switched to very very hot. The TV was only a 9" TV. The cable kept going out the first night we were there. It was a charming setting, but I wouldn't return. Maybe worth 1 night stay, but no more. I am sure if you could get 1 of the 2 ocean view rooms, you may have a much better experience, but they are very expensive. The attached Re Nato Ristorante had good food.

great place, BUSY location
By Julia, 07/12/04
This is a very cozy and beautiful little hotel. It is almost like an large B&B. It is across the parking lot to the beach (30 feet away) and about 50 feet from the Newport pier, which means that it is in a very, VERY busy location. There are a quite few great places to eat within walking distance. You need to know, however, it is located in the most crowded portion of Newport Beach (cars, bars, restaurants, and people).
As far as proximity to the beach and quality of the beach this is the best Newport has to offer. The Hyatt Newporter is on the back bay which is beautiful by is often closed to swimmers because of pollution (I would not let my kids swim in the bay) and so is the Balboa Bay Culb and Marriott suites. BEWARE, other quality Newport Hotels (Four Seasons, Sutton Place, and Marriott Hotel & Tennis Club) are NOT on the beach.
