We won't stay here again

We had read reviews of the hotel online and thought it would be a nice place to make our base as we explored into Canada and around the Upper Peninsula ... bad mistake.
The decor of the hotel is wa-a-a-ay outdated - floral wallpaper, ruffles, floral bedspreads, all really showing wear and tear. And the place reeked of some horrible musty, floral smell, like a really strong room fresher was hidden somewhere to cover up bad odors.
The rooms are small compared to most motels these days and the elevator was so slow we hiked up and down three floors everytime we left and returned.
The restaurant food was just OK, nothing special. One very irritating incident happened the one morning we decided to eat breakfast in the hotel (not included in the room price, the only place we have stayed in the past 10 years that didn't include a breakfast!). As we entered the dining room, a small breakfast buffet was set up along the entry wall. We made a point of walking by it to check out what was on the buffet, and the food looked OK, typical scrambled eggs, hash browns, biscuits and gravy, fruit, etc. But when we were seated and told our waiter we would just take the buffet, we were informed it was only for a bus tour group staying at the hotel.
The hotel clients are almost exclusively from these bus tours and range in age from 70 to 95.
On the plus side, the hotel is close to the locks if you want to spend some time watching ships from around the world move from one of the lakes to the other.
