For the Young & Successful
By Bogie's Mum, 08/20/08
After we got over the IKEA type rooms - we realized this was more of a "yuppie' (do they still use that word) type hotel. Convenient location, but the front door felt like the hotel was under renovations. Strange to hear Chicago employees straining to use phrases like "The 'lift' is on the left" and "You'll find the 'WC' over..." how pretentious. For the price - you'd do better elsewhere. And if you missed the view - stand near an elevator -- great view of the Pier from there.

Lots of Flash, Little Substance
By Just SLO, 06/15/08
Just got back from a 3 day 2 night trip to do some serious shopping on the Mile. The W is a great location for this. Easy walk to Mich Ave and back plus really close to Navy Pier if you decide to take a break from the stores. The hotel has a lot of flash and style in the loby and bar area. The drinks are typical Chicago expansive. The rooms are tiny. The entire hotel just seemed to be lacking in true 4 star substance. The spa was not very luxurious and the everything other than the lobby/bar area seemed institutional. If you are looking for more true 4 star or better luxury, you can do better. But if it is just a place to sleep, well then it is fine.

The best W experience
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/05/08
I really enjoyed staying at the W Lake shore. The Acura Experience service was the best of all my W experience. I would love to come back to W Lake Shore again.

waaaay too expensive
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/24/08
We were told we'd have a lake view but oops, they booked up quickly and we lost out. That meant we stared out at the office building directly behind the hotel and a roof full of exhausts and equipment. This awful sight is euphemistically referred to as "city view." Everything is far too expensive for the quality. We ate at their restaurant, The Wave. It looks very trendy and modern but the food is strictly hit and miss. I had a glass of mediocre house champagne for $15.00. We spent $100 for a skimpy, pretentious meal. The room decor is laughable. There were exactly two pieces of "art." One was sticks in a frame and the other consisted of a cup with pods standing up in it. The lighting came from three light bulbs with pieces of cloth hanging around their frames. It looked like an amateur's attempt at being avant garde. The bathroom was separated from the bed area by wooden shutters! How bizarre. That meant there was no real privacy. No exhaust fan or heat lamp in the bathroom, either. One robe for two guests. The bathroom lighting was impossible. The beds had one sheet and a bedspread. No blanket. We've all heard that hotel bedspreads are filled with traces of unspeakable microorganisms but you couldn't very well remove them and stay warm. We didn't get much sleep because the doors at the end of the hall slammed loudly at all hours of the night. I'd say this hotel thinks it's hot and happening but it's just a giant rip off. We will never stay there again.

not enough for the price!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/26/08
This was a very Ritzy hotel! Not worth the money, room was average, did not like the window or non-locking door in bathroom. Everything was overpriced, no internet service in room, had to go to lobby, then service was very slow.Restaurant prices were way overpriced, no vending machines of any sort, bottled water in room, only $8, ridiculous price. Room prices were over inflated because of a certain event going on, we didn't have much of a choice where to stay because of availiability at the time. not very happy with HOTEL, great for the rich, but not for the average person!!

A Dream come almost true
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/18/08
Overall, Our stay was wonderful. We went just to have a night on the town. The room was very clean, the entire hotel had a great atmosphere, and everyone there met all our needs. It's an expensive place, but you get quite pampered there. The 2 bars there are very nice, and there whenever service even allowed us access to great food at 3am. The only complaints I have is our room was not ready when we got there, but they accomidated us with free drinks and storing our bags. When they stored our bags they got our bags mixed up, but they took care of it quickly.

Do not stay - awful music til 2 am
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/17/07
It's 1.17 am and we've been suffering Richter Level 8 bass drivers directly under or around our bed for the last few hours. Apparently it will last until 2 am, but I will find out for sure ... in 40 sleepless minutes. Do not stay! There are better hotels around, especially in this price range. This is a shame as the rooms are nice (although the king size bed is far off the ground and a bit stiff for my tastes, this is more than made up by the big HDTV and nice bathroom), the staff are courteous and efficient, and the feel of the place is definitely a cut above most hotels. But as a place to sleep, forget it. I have a meeting in a few hours, and I will have had zero rest. W have forgotten about their core deliverable - a comfortable place to stay for *all* guests. 0 stars.

Worse than I expected
By Ying, 04/10/07
I hate the service and the room. My friend made a reservation for 4 single rooms and even though the room rate quoted for all 4 of us is the same amount, they have views of the lake while I have a city view. When I asked the front desk if I may have a room facing the lake, I was told that I need to pay an additional $50 a night. When I pointed out that my 3 other friends (made with the same reservation/rate) all had lake views, the receptionist gave me a ridiculous story about how one of them had asked for a smoking room and to compensate, she was give a lake view room instead. This particular friend of mine doesn't even smoke! Finally, she said that she can't make any change because the system has already indicated that I need to pay $50 a night for a lake view room. I am truly shocked by the reception I received. In addition, the guest room reminds me of an Ikea showroom because of the sparse furniture and decor. The walls and door seem penetratable as I can hear the guests next door rustle their clothes hangers and the people walking in the aisle. The only picture on the wall is a little one with sticks of bamboo. It is so ridiculous. I will never stay here again.
