Very Disappointing!
We stayed at Kapalua Ridge #1414 the week of March 29 – April 5. Since we have stayed in condos on other tropical islands on many occasions we expected to have generally the same experience; white sandy beaches with easy access to food & beverage services, lush beautiful pool area, a jacuzzi, close proximity to bbq's, beautiful lanais to watch the sunset over a glass of wine in the evenings and sleeping in late every morning.
While the condo we stayed in was a little dated and the seating placement didn't afford the best use of the view, it was clean. Unfortunately that is the only positive thing we can say about it. The stereo and safe were not functioning and the second bedroom bathroom shower would not drain. Although we called for repairs, only the safe was fixed. No emergency information or supplies such as flashlight, matches or candles were provided so when the power went off we were fumbling in complete darkness. The emergency number provided suggested we call four other numbers…pretty hard to write down when you have no light.
It seems that Kapalua is a cold, rainy, cloudy and extremely windy area of the island. Situated on a hill, Kapalua Ridge Villas gets the worst of that wind with 40mph gusts very common. It’s apparent why 25 of these units are currently for sale. Had we known this, we would not have chosen this area or this condo. Not only could we not sleep at night due to the constant howling wind noise coming in the windows and doors, we also couldn't use the much anticipated lanais, the pool, or the barbeques. The golf course was closed. The beach had no services and we were not interested in packing supplies up and down the hill. Five miles down the road around the Westin it was always sunny, warmer, and almost no wind. We spent most of our time at other crowded beaches and resort pools; we ate out at restaurants and tried to find anything that would keep us away from the condo.
