Renaissance Kapalua Bay Hotel, Lahaina

The atmosphere and ambiance of the original beautiful Kapalua Bay Hotel is totally lost! It's enough to make one cry. I've been to all the Hawaiian Islands and the old hotel and grounds at Kapalua could not have been improved upon. You ruined everything. People I know have gone back to see the old hotel only to discover the monstrosity that replaced it and cried when they saw what has been done. Why couldn't you leave well enough alone? We always loved the Sunday brunches and the staff and ambiance of the original hotel. I have not spoken with anyone who felt this is an improvement. Tear it down and replace it with the original model! Another example of greed that didn't work out!

It was paradise! Went there for a honeymoon, and it's an ideal vacation anytime for couples! Very few children, if any. Pricey, but well worth it!

this is a very tranquil, romantic hotel with lovely rooms and a great pool and jacuzzi. the only negative would be didn't like the restaurant on site too much, but it's fun to go into lahaina and check out the restaurants there. the room service was excellent however, and the hotel is charming and away from the hustle and bustle of kaanapali beach. perfect for honeymooners.

While staying eight days at the Kapalua Ritz-Carlton back in 2001 my girlfriend and I visited the Kapalua Bay Hotel for cocktails at the suggestion of a friend. We thought it was very pleasant resort and made a promise to stay there when we returned to Maui. We kept the promise this past December 2005. In our opinion, the Kapalua Bay Hotel offered a very desirable combination of first-rate Hawaiian hospitality, a superior water-side location, relative seclusion and most importantly - a very tranquil and relaxing atmosphere. Though by all means luxury resort, this hotel had an unpretentious feel about it, especially when compared to its "Ritzy" cousin down the road. The open areas were well-maintained and the integration with the natural surroundings/animals was notably appealing and entertaining for my girlfriend. I brought my parents on this trip and while mom is not much of a "beach" person, she had a very hard time leaving this place! Suffice it to say, I was very disappointed to learn of this resort's demise as of April 2006 to make way for a newer development. One can only hope the replacement comes close to matching the original resort's uniqueness and understated, high-end feel. For those of us that had the distinct pleasure of staying at the Kapalua Bay Hotel, let us bow our heads in a moment of silence...

Maui is amazing, but Kapalua has a beauty all to its own. My wife and I stayed at the Kapalua Bay Hotel for our Honeymoon. We were greeted with a beautiful rainbow the next morning for our view at breakfast. For the price, I thought that Kapalua Bay had the best value. The view was just amazing, and it was very peaceful. It doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles... but hey, when you're in paradise, who needs it. We also stayed at the Ritz for 2 days and wished we were able to stay at Kapalua Bay instead. We plan on going back in the next couple years and staying at Kapalua Bay.

The location was great. Nice beach and the hotel grounds were well kept. The room was nice and large, but looked a little worn around the edges. The staff could use some improvement with customer service. For the most part the staff was helpful and friendly, but not all took the "extra step" that has been apparent at other resorts in the state. For the price, the additional resort fee seem ridiculous. This also can apply to other resorts. If it is "mandatory" then go ahead and add to the room fee and be done with it. Have stayed at other resorts on Maui in the same price category that would definitely get our return business before this one would.

The Kapalua Bay Club was the most wonderful expeerience I have had the pleasure to have. The beauty of Kapalua Bay during the day or the ambience of the the Bay Club at night is second to none. From the menu to the wait staff, the Bartenders to the hostesses, NEVER have I had a better experience dining. An ELEVEN star out of TEN.

It's not cheap to be sure but worth every penny I spent. The location is magnificent, quiet and peacefull. Incredible golf, and we were treated like royalty everywhere we went on the property. I know this sounds silly but their resteraunt has the best hashbrowns I've ever had, and I had them every morning at breakfast. Two best things about this trip: The kyak snorkle adventure. There were a total of 5 of us early in the morning enjoying one of the best snorkle spots I've been in my life. The massage outdoors overlooking the beach. It was likely more incredible because we did this after taking surf lessons in the morning. I will be back.

While the rooms were outdated when we visited in late 2000, the setting couldn't be more beautiful. We loved hte open air feel and the 'old school' style of this resort.

Likes: Openess of hotel and sunsets, views of grounds and ocean from rooms, pool area, secluded from the Maui hub-bub. My rate was $250 a night on my second visit with a garden view so I rated the value high. S0-S0s- breakfest was expensive. Need something else so days budget is not blown every morning. Rooms could use an uplift but they were not horrible. Guess you can stay they had "patina" Dislikes: The weather during winter months is not great. A few days we had to drive to Laheina to get sunshine. Unless they grant KB a stay of execution, the hotel is doomed in April 2006 to a wrecking ball to make way for condos. The place is not overrun by kids. Go to Kaanapali and Wailea for that. Just got married? This is the place. Very Romantic. My visits were in March and November. I understand that the weatherin Kapalua Bay is best during the summer months. The resort is not the Fairmont which I visited. The Fairmont is big, glitzy. The KB is old school, low key but high end.
