Boukhara, An Indian MacDonald
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/3/06
While in Delhi this last November, we had the misfortune of dining at Boukhara restaurant, after having heard good things about it in some reviews. We thought that this restaurant,in the good old tradition of similar restaurants dealing with Frontier cuisine, like the one in Moghul Sheraton Agra (which is excellent),would do honour to this fine cooking and decided to go there. We were shocked how this restaurant is run like a fast food joint with awful and appalling cooking. For example, the Simla Mirch, was not Simla Mirch at all; uncooked from the oven even after two tries by the Chef. Simla Mirch is normally not an oven recipe. This brings shame to the Indian art of cooking which is being touted in this joint as genuine cuisine to unsuspecting and sometimes, ignorent foreigners. Like most of the restaurants in '5 Star' hotels in Delhi, this restaurant is to be avoided if you are looking for authentic Indian hospitality and cooking. The food prices for this mediocre fair were outrageous: A fast food type of place with an awkward, pompous and artificial atmosphere where the waiters are looking for you to leave as soon as they think you have finished the meal!!!
