l'hotel Ibis - to stay or not to stay...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/28/05
You're traveling to an foreign destination filled with history and unique flavor. Do you want to stay in an American-style hotel? l'hotel Ibis (pronounced in French like eebys) is a national chain.
Don't get me wrong! There is nothing wrong with Ibis depending on the type of experience you want.
If you are the type who would like to see Europe from an air-conditioned, tinted-windowed bus, and stay at places similar to those in America, this may be the mid-class hotel chain for you.
If you want to truly enjoy the flavor of the country you are visiting, walk and see your own sights, and meet people, try some of the small one or two star hotels listed in a good tour book like Frommers or Rick Steves tour books. (Ratings differ from America and stars represent number of amenities and not condition.)
Most of all, wherever you stay, be polite, say Bonjour, and enjoy! Even a tiny attempt at the French language - to say hello (bonjour) and thank you (merci) - will make a considerable difference in your vacation.
