Grey Fox Inn And Resort, Stowe

Liked: Well located, right on bike path, nice staff, great food at restaurant on site, very nice swimming pools, nice sport court for kids to play on, very clean, appears well managed Disliked: Wanted a condo unit, but there are only a few and they were already booked.

We went to Stowe to have an active, outdoorsy weekend. The hotel is right on the bike path. Excellent hiking options within a few miles. Nice outdoor and indoor pools! The ate at the restaurant twice, and tried the breakfast and dinner menu. We also tried a few other restaurants in Stowe, and we preferred the one onsite to the others. We also liked having a few nice Vermont draft beers in the pub before we walked back to our room each evening. The people who worked there were nice. It is a small hotel, so it doesn't have some of the services that you would find in a larger property. It was perfect for what we were seeking, and just what we needed! Would definately recommmend.

The staff was professional, polite and informative about what there was to do in Stowe. We were in Stowe to go skiing and enjoy the outdoor recreation in the area. The recreation path right behiond the hotel is groomed for cross country skiing, so we rented some skis from a nearby store and headed out on the path--really nice!!! We enjoyed the indoor pool and hot tub.

We found significant changes since our stay a year ago. Pub food was excellent, salad, prime rib and dessert. We particularly enjoyed the local guitar player. The rooms were clean, people friendly and rec path location a bonus. It turns out the hotel is under new management and it shows.

We stayed one night and do NOT recommend this resort. Beds here are awful! Furniture is old. Bathroom did not have any counterspace at all! TV remote didn't work very good. Find somewhere else to stay! Definitely not worth the money you have to pay.

Stayed a week the room was hot and stuffy, air conditioning was not enough and carpet felt gross under feet. The staff is nice and amenities are great. Don't stay in the cottage rooms they are worse then the inn rooms, I checked one out and it was smelly and damp. This was not as nice as expected since I had seen the resort for years and wanted to stay there. I felt really let down have stayed at low budget motels that were as nice.

We just returned from a 2 night stay at The Grey Fox. I am 6 months pregnant and we brought our 2 year old daughter. She loved the outdoor heated pool and outdoor space to run and play. The staff were incredibly helpful, giving us great ideas on kid-friendly places to eat and providing our daughter with endless coloring pages. The Dutch Pancake Cafe was delicious- try a brunch item... I liked it more than the pancakes! Room cleanliness was outstanding and the fact that there were 2 areas of the room (a seating area with pull out couch, and bedroom) was perfect- my husband and I could watch TV while little one slept. There was a mini fridge and coffee maker with endless Green Mountain coffee- yum! The indoor pool was wonderful- I was able to swim laps in the evening with no one else in the pool. Very relaxing. The Inn is very quiet and clean, nicely appointed and in the heart of Stowe. Stowe is a beautiful place to visit and we will definitely stay at the Grey Fox again! (Try The Sunset Bar and Grille for an amazing dinner and fun atmosphere! Very kid-friendly too!)

Compact but functional, small but comfortable and clean. Had a corner room in the back building overlooking the field and up into the mountains. Had everything for a nice ski getaway... two sided gas fireplace facing room and then the tub area, jacuzzi tub, DVD player, king sized bed, two swivel chairs and desk. The indoor pool and game were great and the pub was convenient. Shuttle bus stop is across the street. Breakfast with 25% discount was excellent. If you are looking for Ritz Carlton luxury, this is not the place but if you are looking for a nice place with amenities for a ski weekend, this is it.

Stowe is a beautiful town with unbelievable scenery, but if you wish to enjoy it for all it’s worth the Grey Fox Inn is NOT the place to go. Starting from unsanitary room conditions to terrible food and service, our stay there was un-enjoyable to say the least. Promising a “mountain view” with a fireplace and Jacuzzi the Grey Fox Inn seemed to be a perfect place for a romantic getaway. However upon arrival we realized that are view was nothing more but trees with a mountain in the distance only visible if you stretched around the balcony to see. When seeing our room I spoke to someone at the front desk about the misleading information and he explained the man who took our reservations was “new,” and there was nothing he could do even though we spent $300 dollars and drove 3 and a half hours for that view. In addition too, our Jacuzzi was not properly cleaned before us and had pubic hairs around the walls, the mouth wash and shampoo’s left for us had been clearly opened prior because the seals had been poked through and left as was. But what got to me the most aside from the tasteless food selection of the Inn’s Pub was our bed. After removing our comforter we saw clumps of hair and stains all over our blanket. When telling the front desk of all troubles upon check out a simple “oh sorry” was all I got form the girl. In reply to her I said, I’m sorry as well because I will never recommend this place to anyone!!

From the very beginning the front desk staff was helpful answering questions over the phone. Once we were there, our room was quite comfortable and very clean. We stayed in one of the Mountainview Suites that featured a jacuzzi tub. The tub was thoroughly cleaned each day. We would DEFINITELY recommend the Dutch Pancake House which is attached to the inn. It was by far the best breakfast we have ever had and was a big reason why we are returning this year. The wait staff was very personable, too.
