Good value at the regular price
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/19/10
Most reviews said that the Quality Inn University Center was unclean, which may have been quite true until recently. They had issues with the housekeeping staff, and have now hired a new contractor. My room was on the 7th floor, which had new / freshly shampooed carpet, and a clean bathroom. The normal room rate ($67) is a great value. But I paid more than double because of the Losers-Patriots game. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The free shuttle goes to all the Universities.

Great stay for the money
I booked this hotel for the cost and location. It was near the Carnegie Museum, The Science Center, The Zoo, and PNC Park and Heinz Field. Also near Bettis' restaurant and many others. The hotel is not a new one but was descent and clean. The staff was friendly and there is a Panera Bread in the bottom of the hotel. We were happy with our stay.

Everything was BAD!
By Toots, 3/28/09
My husband & I only needed a room for one evening--from 10PM until 5AM, while our son was a patient at a nearby hospital for a sleep study. Even for this short amount of time, this hotel was horrible. Don't stay here if you can help it. I booked it a week before my son's appointment, it was the only place that had a room due to a basketball game in town. I asked for non-smoking, which is what the sign on the door said, but it was very obvious that people smoke in that room. There was this very loud sound of a jet engine coming from outside the sliding glass doors. When my husband opened the door to the balcony he saw this huge refrigeration unit right outside our door for the Panera Bread on the first floor of the hotel. It was so loud, we couldn't hear the TV. The bathtub did not drain and we took our showers while standing in a huge puddle of dirty water. When we got into bed we noticed that the queen bed that we were told we would get was actually a full size bed. But the worst thing of our stay was my pillow and pillowcase was wet! OOHH!! I threw it on the floor and used another one that was on the bed. I tried to sleep without letting my mouth touch the pillow--I know that sounds crazy but it was so gross. Don't stay here!!!

Reliable
By Andrew Crampton, 1/30/09
I stayed here for the 2nd time this past week and once again, left satisfied. I don't go into it expecting a luxurious stay and understand for that for it's price and location, is a great deal. I've priced the other hotels in the area and they're just too expensive for my needs. The rooms are clean, staff is nice, location is convenient. I haven't been disappointed yet and will continue to stay here if I find myself in the area again.

More like the "Poor Quality" Inn
By Unenthused, 9/24/08
This place was pitched as a budget hotel, but I still felt that I was paying too much for what I got. The whole experience was like something out of The Twilight Zone, with a creepy greeter, dingy lighting, and the slowest elevator in existence. Mysterious stains littered the carpet, and the hallway where I stayed smelled like food for two days. I did not feel safe when I stayed here. In the hotel were warnings about break-ins, and an oh-so-helpful tidbit about barring the door for "added" safety. The employees tried to be helpful, but I think the best description for them is "befuddled." At least there weren't any roaches. I will never stay here again.

The Low Quality No Quality Inn
By Unimpressed, 9/24/08
Don't bother wasting a cent statying here and do not let the name fool you. There is nothing Quality about this hotel. It is in pathetic shape and as dirty as can be. Either they do not enforce houscleaning or else they just do not care. I think that they take thier location into account and take advantage of travelers. The price was WAY over what you would expect for what was provided. The sliding glass door was broken, the bathroom was not clean, the staff was rude and inexperienced in customer relations, the bedding made me itch, the room smelled funny, the light switches did not work well as if the wiring was on the fritz, the shuttle was not on time as promised, the hallways were dark and dingy, the ONE elevator that worked was slow and malfunctioning. I cannot think of one good thing about this particualr hotel. If I were in charge of the Choice Hotels, I would be ashamed of the Quality Inn University Center. Poor, poor excuse for a hotel and a trap for out of town visitors. I will never stay there again and do all I can to prevent anyone else I know from doing so. This is a nasty and grotesque place to stay. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere.

DISGUSTING PLACE-DO NOT GO!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/24/08
What a terrible excuse fro a hotel. This place is shameful and smelly. Everything is old and worn out, not to mention overpriced. The wiring is messed up, there was black hair in the shower and on the shower walls. The paint is peeling off of the walls. I was actually afraid to leave my leftover pizza in the room for fear of rats. If you can find ANYWHERE else to stay, you should. This place is disgusting! I would never reccomend this place to anyone. It was the worst place I have ever stayed in. Gross, gross, gross.

By diane, 9/7/08
I cant begin to tell you how upset I was with this hotel, for the money we paid I at least expected a clean room and this was far from clean,The room was dingy and dirty and even had grasshopper in the room, the carpet wasnt vacumed, walls were stained and peeling, floor in bathroom was so dirty and the bathtub did not look clean, the wall connecting to the sliding glass door to the balcony was coming apart, omg i was in shock, this had been my far the worst hotel I have ever stayed in and when I took my complaints to the front desk all they said was oh really we will write that down so that being all said never will at this hotel!
