El Campo Casa Resort Motel, Jackson

I would not recommend staying at this motel for several reasons. While the motel possesses a quaint appeal, this is greatly overshadowed by the age and lack of even modest modernization. The first thing you notice when you walk into the room is the old musty smell that reminds you of your grandmother’s closest. Then you notice the TV in your room is an old Zenith. This company went out of business 30 years ago. Moreover the cable or satellite reception is unreliable and the quality poor. Shortly thereafter you realize the room is very warm and find to your amazement that there is no air conditioning. We arrange for a two day stay. The first night was unbearably hot and even with the windows open, it was 11PM before the room was cool enough to sleep. The next day I went to speak to the manager about this. Apparently this guy has a substance abuse and anger management problem. They guy had obviously been drinking and was very belligerent. His solution was to have me leave the motel. Which we did…, gladly.

I stayed here one night and thought it was great for the price. There's not much to complain about except the fact that this place has not had in update in probably 20 years and it shows. However, besides the dated accommodations, it was clean and comfortable and felt relatively safe.

This is a great place. built in 1941. It has some period drawbacks; it smells kind of old, it doesn't have individual climate control, there are no room phones, there are no 10,000 channels of cable, the bathroom is horribly, horribly small. OK, now that I've frightened away the squeamish, you've GOT to stay here. The grounds and garden are out of this world. The 1940s decor and design are something you'll never see if you stay with Best Western. The pool is great, it's quiet. This is how America used to travel and you know what? It's nice. It's peaceful. It's relaxing. Do what we did and stop early in the day. Sit in the garden and enjoy. Stop at the grocery and buy some charcoal and a couple of steaks and some beer and ENJOY YOURSELF. What a great place.

I initially stayed there a year or so ago (when my parents moved to Jackson) because it was inexpensive but I keep coming back because it's charming and I have all I need. Yes, the rooms offer no real amenities, but the beds are comfortable, the TV works and there is a coffee maker. The rooms, including the tiny bathrooms are very clean and comfortable. No phone, but who doesn't have a cell phone?!. The grounds are beautiful with rolling hills, oaks, and pasture land beyond. I could stay at more expensive places but I really prefer El Campo Casa.
