Quiet family run place

We stayed at the Woodland Hotel on a Saturday night before we ventured into Mt. St. Helens area to go hiking. The hotel is surprisingly quiet and our room had a mini kitchen, a queen bed, and a single bed. the queen bed was very mushy and not that comfortable but we slept ok on it. For $49 inc. tax we couldn't really complain. Ron, the owner, is very knowledgeable about hikes in the area and is a good resource for current info. We stayed here b/c of the proximity to the east side hikes of the volcano and FS road 99. They also have a couple of friendly cats. One of which we let into our room in the morning while we were getting ready to leave. We thought this was kinda neat. There are no restaurants and this place is very much on its own and may drive by it at night. We would recommmend eating in Packwood or Morton before arriving at this hotel. We live in Seattle and were almost freaked out by how quiet it was here. The cedar walls are cool and the towels are like ones you have at home. Overall good and you get what you pay for and maybe a bit more with this place. If interested, they have 40 channel dish tv.
