Westerner Motel, Gardnerville

OK, it's an old building. Michelin will not give it a 5 star rating, but I certainly do! Everything works, there has been a ton of money spent in upgrading and fixing stuff, there are unexpected things (HDTV and wi-fi both just sitting there to be used - with no fanfare or extra charges) The room (and this part of town) were extremely quiet, and it was a saturday night on the main drag. The bed was as comfortable as the one I have at home, I didn't get that 'motel room backache' from sleeping here. front desk guy was very helpful when I made the reservation, was there when I checked in much later than I expected, remembered who I was and was cheerful about being kept up so d**n late at night, was helpful the next morning regarding recommending places to eat and driving routes. This place is what a motel should be, and rarely is. Over the last 40 years I've stayed at a lot of places and have only a handful that I deliberately return to. This is definitely one of those few. I've paid a heck of a lot more and gotten less in many other places.

This is what a motel should be like!!! Stayed 7 nights straight for work... Fantastic! Staff was amazingly helpful and kind. Large rooms, Extremely comfortable beds, fridge and microwave, parking right in front of your room, close to all amenities, clean, spacious, great price!!! Will recomment to everyone and will stay there again!! Thanks for a great stay!

I didn't dislike anything. I came late at night and the owner was very hospitable. The room was cozy and I slept like a baby.

We discovered this gem by shear accident while attempting to travel during a snowstorm and were so impressed that we return each year during our winter vacation to Bishop & Reno. Safe, clean, quiet with huge rooms and (most importantly for us) pet-friendly! Super location close to amenities and the staff couldn't be nicer. A exceptional motor lodge!

Very clean, comfortable, and a great departure from the cookie-cutter chain motels. Locally owned and operated makes a big difference - the staff are very friendly and knowledgeable.

Locally owned and operated by extremely nice people. Very clean room. It was nice to have DSL so we could email our trip photo's before we ever left town. We was able to walk to antique shops, restaurants and Walgreens had just opened on the corner. There are two groceries stores on either side of the motel. During our stay they were completing a landscape project that included all of the grounds. They were also intalling all new windows. We took advantage of one of their pet friendly rooms. We will be going back next year if not before and we will certainly being staying once again at the Westerner!

Nice pool, great service! Excellent location! I'll be back! What a great experience...I fell in love with the mountain views! Good places to eat nearby too!

Friendly environment and great views. Clean rooms accomodating staff. Close to Yosemite, Tahoe and other attractions. Seems to be a best kept secret kind of town...

Nice rooms, clean and comfortable. Great service, very helpful people. Short distance to ski resorts and fabulous glider flying. Walking distance to stores, restaurants, etc. Great view of the Sierra Mountains. Overall, a cozy place at a great price.
