Hotel Chequamegon, Ashland

my husband and i stayed here during a spontaneous road trip to northern wisconsin. it was unfortunate that they were nearly completely booked when we got there, so didn't get the type of room we were hoping for, but without a reservation and one of the last weekends of summer, we're just glad there was vacancy at all! we only stayed for one night, and pretty much only slept in the room, so i can't say much about the service of the staff. we did go down to the bar later in the evening, and alex the bartender made our time there a complete blast. the room was beautiful. after staying at an americinn in rhinelander the night before, entering our room at this hotel sort of took our breath away. the bed was extremely comfortable (i think it was a pillowtop). it's so nice to see a hotel that actually has some character to it, rather than just looking like the furniture was screwed together out of a box. we hope to come here again soon, and are able to stay for more than one night. and perhaps get a lakeside suite this time! maybe even a jacuzzi suite!

Good view from the patio area, cheap patio furniture, poor service, filthy bathroom. My favorite part was when the waitress brought our glasses of beer she set them down and said "Don't steal the glasses". OH MY GOSH!

We were very impressed by the hotel itself. Beautiful room. The food in the restaurant was excellent, however, the wait staff leaves much to be desired. More interested in texting, and gossiping with each other, than taking care of customers.

Poor staff, bad attitudes. Get rid of the two blondes chain-smoking at the front doors this looked very bad. Where is the boss in this place?

Stopped there for dinner on 9-9-08. Steak was improperly cooked and tough. Whitefish was "fishy" and inedible. Waitress was totally indifferent.

The Old World charm of this place is most impressive! Very nice, relaxed atmosphere. Down to earth employees that are more than happy to greet you with a smile. Beautiful bar on the lower floor with a walkout deck where you can enjoy the fresh air. Breath the air once and you will want to come back. I have read some of the earlier reviews of this business. I do not agree with them. I have stayed here four times in the last 10 years and cannot recall a bad experience other than a touch of adult beverage flu!

Beautiful histoic hotel on the shores of Lake Superior. Has the quaint charm of the old days with all the amenities of modern day. You will take a step back in time when you walk into their doors. I have many fond memories there.

Wow is all that i can say. Everything about this place was wonderful. There is no other place that i would have stayed. I reccommend this place to everyone that i run into. You have to stay here.

It was the best place that i have ever stayed at. The service was always wonderful and with a smile.You can just tell that the people that work there love their jobs. It shows in the work that they do. I am telling everyone that i know to stay there.
