This is the second year we've stayed here with our two young children on our way home from our annual vacation. I will say that it is a good way to "break up" the drive for the kids. The upside is that it is a fun place to stay in a "kitchy" kind of "Route 66" kind of way. The food at the restaurant is kinda pricey, but good (get there early if you don't want to wait), and it is a fun place to eat as well. The reasturant is practically a theme park, with games, a gift shop, fun stuff on the walls, and don't forget the occasional person to challenge the 72 oz. steak on the stage. They have a pool shaped like the state of Texas, and it is clean and well-maintained. I also have to say that is it always cool - a welcome treat after driving all day in 95 degree temps in the summer (I can't stand checking into a hotel in the summer only to discover the pool is 98 degrees!). Now for the downside. The hotel is old, and shows it. While the rooms and beds are perfectly clean and acceptable (in my opinion), the walls have some occasional rot where they meet the floor, the wallpaper is sometimes peeling, etc... again, just a little old and worn out. When we were there this time the ice machine was on the fritz, and it took about 5 minutes to get one CUP of ice. Nobody htere gets in a hurry to fix anything (like the ice machine), so just know that going in. We'll stay there again, as we do have fun when we go, and it's certainly not unclean and gross like some motels I've been to (read: the Budget Inn in Durango, CO!) - I'm fine with staying there with my family. But their focus is certainly not on having the newest most up-to-date hotel.

Place smells of cigarette smoke. I couldn't cool the room off and on the second night noticed that my window was open (probably 'cause of the smell). That didn't go over well with me...I checked after the second night. My reservation had been made for 4 nights and I stayed 2. I was charged for all 4 nights. I didn't notice this until the next day. I've called the Inn at least 20 times over the last 2 days only to be told the manager is in a "meeting". Avoid this place!!

Stay somewhere else! The rooms were passable but the service has been horrible. I was charged for 3 nights when I only stayed 1 night. I have supposedly talked to the manager several times and she insists that she will take care of the bill and make the corrections but it never happens. I have had to turn it over to my credit card company to get it straightend out. What an ordeal!

We arrived late at the Big Texan Motel, after driving for over 14 hours. We had booked by telephone because we thought the pictures on the Internet looked nice. Boy, we were in for a shock! The room was old and in disrepair. It smelled musty and stale. The sheets didn't fit the bed. The carpet was ripped and stained and looked like it hadn't been vacuumed in months! The concrete block walls were dirty, and mold was growing on the lower walls. We left early in the morning, without using the filthy bathroom! Mildew was inside the shower, the toilet seat was cracked, broken, AND dirty, and the drywall was literally falling off the wall next to the shower!! This was the worst place I've ever been in! If we hadn't been so exhausted, we wouldn't have stayed at all! Don't waste your money on this dirty dive!

This was our last night after a 10 day roadtrip from Houston to the Grand Canyon! The room was comfortable and the food was great! The Texas theme just added to the trip and gave us something fun & new to talk about during our last long day drive home! Yes, I would recommend it as a sleep over motel.

I like the Big Texan always a good time, freindly staff/patron, and good food. This past weekend I thought why not stay in Amarillo for the night and stay at the Big Texan. When I first walked into the room I was like this is neat look and look at that. The initial charm of the Big Texan Hotel didnt last for long. As the AC in either of the 2 rooms I rented that night worked, I was able to deal with that as the temprature was barable. Now after sitting in the room for a while the cinder block was started reminding me of my days living in dormotories in the military, but worse seeing how I shelled out money to stay hear. After getting a decient night sleep, the beds wasnt like sleeping on rocks or clouds, somewere in the middle. Well went to make coffee, well the filters had not been cleaned for a while, no big deal I thought, I can get a cup from the resturant after a shower. So I hopped in the shower, the bath/shower was probably the worst I've seen in a while. The tub well I think needed replaced, reason being it looked as if a bucket of paint had been spilled in it. Well I go to turn the water on and I had to mess with the nob for about 5 mins before I got the water on. Finally I am able to get in when the next problem occurs. After about 2 mins of showing I noticed I was standing ankle deep in water. I myself dont like that when i take a shower just seems dirty to me. So in my opinion I like the Big Texan Steakhouse. As for the Hotel it leaves alot to be disired. Repairs and Upgrades need to be done before I suggest anyone stay there. If you are thinking of staying here don't, walk around take pictures of the hotel if you find it interesting.

My wife, daughter (4) and I stayed here for one night on the way to San Antonio and absolutely loved it. The rooms were appropriately themed and the look of the hotel was fantastic. The location wasnt the best but downtown Amarillow was just a few minutes away. The food at the Steakhouse was outstanding. Good for a nights stay. Will go again.

The room was clean, comfortable, and had a very cute theme. The Staff were friendly and inviting. The food at the restaurant was superb. Great steak! Plus we came on a saturday night so they had a live group of musicians go around the tables and serenade everyone with some great uplifting, knee slapping music. The dining room was huge and complimented the theme. Also, they have a great souvenier shop right off the dining room that has some fun stuff you can bring home after a great experience at the ranch. I would definately come here again!!!
