Beachcomber Motel, Mackinaw City

We have always spent the night in Mackinaw City before our trip to the island,and have stayed In at least 20 different motels there. This was the first time for The Beachcomber and we were pleasantly surprised. Excellent views, very clean rooms. I was most impressed at the friendliness of the owner she went above and beyond helping with our stay. I would certainly stay here again and recommend it to others going.

We were a little leary booking at the Beachcomber after reading some of the reviews. But we have first hand experience at staying at the Beachcomber Motel that offered a very clean, convenient and friendly-staffed motel. The gas card incentive was a great plus but with or without a gas card we will definitely stay there again. The fire pit was a nice touch as we sat around looking out at the water and chatting with other guests. We were traveling with my parents and the ground floor access was great for them. We were on a long road trip and wanted a place that was more "homey", not over commercialized. This was perfect. Our room had a nice little deck to allow us to sit outside and enjoy the lake. We had a really nice beach to enjoy. The room was very clean. Our 11 year old daughter was thrilled to be able to run from the room to the beach, we didn't have to escort her since we could watch easily from our room deck. The continental breakfast was a nice treat to help us get going fast in the morning. Our location was within easy walk to the main tourist shopping/eating area. We had bicycles in our extra long pickup, parking was very adequate. The motel is only a couple blocks down the street from the ferry launch to Macinaw Island. Our only negative experience was when making the reservation, the lady taking our information came across as abrupt in her demeanor.... but no worries, we had a great time and were well satisfied. Great value price too.

My husband and I stayed here about 8-9 years ago on a mini honeymoon trip. I am thrilled to say we are returning with our son and daughter this weekend. This will be our childrens first rip to see the bridge and there was no question s to where would be staying over the weekend. Just the name of the Hotel alone is peaceful. Looking forward to interacting with owners and the staff. Proud to let them know I am passing on the experience to our children. See ya soon.

Had to cancel my reservation (5 weeks in advance) because I lost my job, and she charged me 10% of my deposit! When I asked the reason she was extremely rude. Definitely will never stay there.

Family oriented, clean room with jacuzzi on the beach. Wonderful expperience

The negative 1 star was for a different city not Mackinaw City. Get your facts right before you run down a great place.

I loved having clean carpets, clean bathroom, and even a loveseat--frig and microwave, table and chairs--This place was very nice. The owners are friendly, helpful, and very nice. I highly recommend this place. I'm sorry I live in California--because it would be on my frequent list, if I was closer. AND I am a guest, not an owner.

My family and I just returned from a stay at the Beachcomber Motel On The Water. I did look at all the positive and negative reviews before making my decision. What I found was it's neat very neat and clean; never saw any of the old disgusting pillows as one contributor noted. In talking with the owner found the side rooms had all new furniture in the last 2 years, plus a lot of new mattresses -- never did experience the old thin things someone complained of. And of yes there as cream cheese for the bagels. The beach did have some grass on it and the lake had some stones, but in talking with other guests that had stayed there many times, found this is common for Lake Huron. So all in all don't hesitate to try this motel it was great, clean and the price was right. The owner was very nice and helpful with all our questions. My family and I will return again in the future.

I worked for a major Marriott hotel for 8 years as the executive housekeeper. I know what to look for in the cleanliness dept. The Beachcomber passed my inspection everytime. We always stay in the beachfront rooms because you can hear the sounds of the water and it is very relaxing. It also is great to not be in the big hotel atmosphere where kids run up and down the hallways which was a very big complaint where I worked. The owners are very nice and helpful if you need anything. They have vcr's in room and movies to rent on request. My 7 yr old grandson loves it too because of the beach and swingset right outside the room and also they have a pingpong table onsight. I have been going to Mackinaw since I was a child and have stayed in a lot of the motels and hotels and Beachcomber gives you almost the same comforts as the big guys but for a much smaller price so you can stay longer and see more. I recommend them to everyone I know. A lot of people I know have stayed there on my reference because they know how fussy I am when it comes to clean hotel rooms. None were disappointed. Keep up the great work Beachcomber. {I even tried talking one of their housekeepers into moving back to my hometown and work for me.} Thank You staff for always a very enjoyable stay. We are planning another trip up in October.
