I WOULD NEVER GO BACK!!!!!

I made reservations two weeks in advance for my cousins wedding for August 28, 2010. Our family reached the hotel to check in on the 27th approximately 11:30 pm, after driving in from Portsmouth, VA. (This was the hotel recommendation with our wedding invitation, so I assumed it to be nice). As I gave my confirmation number to the clerk, he indicated that our room had been given to someone else. I used my credit card in advance to book this room. In order to get another room, I had to give my card again. As we approached our room. There was an unpleasant smell. The room had mildew on the bed covers, the ceiling had been patched (looked as though from a leak), the carpet was worn near the bathroom area and the chairs were soiled. Of course, when we travel we always carry extra sheets to put over the beds. Thank God we had extra sheets, there's no way we would have gotten on those beds without our personal linen (and I was afraid even after having our sheets). The only way for my family and myself to breathe without coughing and sneezing, I had to spray perfume on the AC unit. THIS WAS THE MOST UNPLEASANT EXPERIENCE WE HAVE EVER HAD. We weren't offered another room nor would they refund our money. We had planned to stay for 2 nights but we checked out the next morning. This is a matter that will be reported to the health department. Its good to have a camera phone. I have pictures of this room as proof. For all the other nice reviews I've read, I didn't find this hotel located at 2310 William Street, Fredericksburg, VA to even receive a (1) star. We were in room # 135. I will be submitting a letter to the hotel manager for a full refund and a copy to the Health Department.
