4 reviews for Captain's House Inn of Chatham, Chatham
Great place for a special getaway
By Rin, 02/13/09
I have stayed at this inn three times, and next week will be there for the fourth. I have stayed in different rooms each time, and every room had charm and lovely details. Yes, a few of the fixtures here and there are showing their age, but the overall elegance and attention to details more than make up for that. The rooms vary from smallish to large, and the prices go up accordingly. I do not know if I would feel as positive if I paid full price during the summer as the rooms are very pricey then. But in the winter when their mid-week special is running, I think I get a true bargain of staying in very high quality accomodations on a budget. Chatham in the off-season is wonderful -- just enough shops and restaurants are open to make it worth the trip, and it is so much more quiet and peaceful. The innkeepers really do want to cater to their guests needs, and they also keep very thorough records so that if you return, they will remember you and your preferences. The food -- breakfast and high tea -- is exceptional, and on more than one occasion just those two "meals" sufficed to feed me for the day. I love this inn and all it has to offer, and I recommend it for a special getaway. It is not a motel, a la Route 28 accomodation on the Cape, but it is worth all of the difference in price from those places. This is an inn of exceptional quality that creates a warm and welcoming environment for its guests. I heartily recommend it.

great stay
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/11/07
We had 4 nights in the Garden Room and loved it . Yes it was small but characterful and quaint. It had a modern large walk in shower. There was a flat screen tv with dvd and a super collection of dvd's if you wanted a quiet nite in . The staff were all excellent and welcoming and were able to give good advice on trips and eating out. It was the best stay on our 2/52 trip to boston and new england

Fabulous Place!!!
By Gina, 09/23/07
Captain's House Inn was relaxing and enjoyable. It has old world charm and is very quaint. The gardens...oh the gardens, wow!!! The service was superb and the location was perfect for visiting the Cape. The breakfast and snacks were delicious. The Innkeepers and other staff members have wonderful hospitality. Thank you, we will visit again!

Not Luxury - Poor Value!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/02/05
Why does this slightly above average Bed and Breakfast receive such outstanding reviews - who writes them? I agree with every word written by the visitor from Pembroke in Bermuda. We have used Tripadvisor on a number of occasions to find quality accommodation - unfortunately on this occasion the system failed! We stayed at four hotels during our holiday to America, which were all highly rated by Tripadvisor and all excellent except for The Captain's House Inn. THIS PLACE IS DESPERATELY OVERSOLD! Even the delightful English students are trained to make it sound fantastic when you phone to make a reservation. Wonderful hosts the brochure exclaims - we actually spoke to one of the hosts once during our four night stay and that was when we paid the bill! The dinning room is stuffy and funereal. A lot of the general decor is tatty and the so-called antiques leave a lot to be desired. We stayed in The Garden Room - the name possibly came from the fact that in a former life it was possibly the garden shed! The room was incredibly small even by English standards - so small that the tiny wardrobe had to be located in the bathroom - that was a first!!. The six feet six inch high ceiling which fell to just over five feet in places meant that the room was extremely claustrophobic. The bed was uncomfortable and the general quality of the furniture in our room was very cheap. This was their most recently refurbished room! And don't be kidded by the gourmet food - it is ok and nothing else! THIS GLORIFIED B & B IS NOT THE VERY HIGH STANDARD OF LUXURY THAT IS DEPICTED IN THEIR OWN OVER THE TOP WEBSITE!
