The Breakers Hotel On The Ocean, Spring Lake

The location is unbeatable and everything about the Breakers is just fantastic. From the staff to the rooms to the facilities; it's a great place to stay when visiting the Jersey Shore.

The food here is AWFUL and I STRESS AWFUL! Scrambled eggs were green and the Calamari was obviously frozen and tasteless. My wife found hair in the salad! There is a bar, but it is only open if there is a banquet going on. We received a few drinks this weekend because there were two weddings and the bartender didn't charge us because I guess he thought we were part of the wedding. Unorganized / new staff who felt they were above us. Our lunch server took a while to get drinks and god forbid if you'd like to have more than one drink. Very stuffy hotel. Very loud air conditioners. Had an ocean view room on the 3rd floor which we had to take an elevator to. The view was nice but not very clean and definitely not worth what we paid. Had higher expectations. **The only positive about our stay was the restaurant next door called Black Trumpet. We ate dinner there Saturday night and the food was OUTSTANDING along with the service. We love spring lake and hope to be back just not at the breakers.

Went to my boss's wedding, we spent 3 days there and it was terrible - the staff was the worst ... EVER! The front desk staff was "nice" to my husband (ps. he's white - I'm not) but extremely rude to me when I went to make the same complaints about the room (that was in the garage/storage/dumpster area - we had paid in full three months in advance for a room overlooking the ocean. When we got there, they claimed to have overbooked and we were left with the rear room - full price as a suite!!!). I asked if we could switch if our room becomes available since we couldn't go anywhere else at that moment - The snotty "lady" told me no and then 10 mins after she told my husband that they would do whatever to help "him".The food was disgusting, the room was OK except nothing worked - the lock was broken, the bath did not work, the faucets were loose, the windows were opened, the room smelled like urine, etc. etc. . The only good thing - my husband and I were entertained by the fact that in this day and age ppl are so ignorant and racist. WE WILL NEVER GO BACK - SINCE THEN WE HAVE GONE TO MULTIPLE LOCATIONS IN THE AREA AND THEY ARE WAY, WAY, WAY BETTER. Oh, we also sent them a letter, and of course, they didn't even respond out of courtesy. The ppl there should relocate to Racistville. Except, the valet kids - they were decent, or it could just be bc we drove a decent car and tipped them excessively for being polite.

I thought the accommodations were nice, but after leaving my purse in my room, didn't want to take it to the wedding I was attending, I returned to find all of my money gone! Management was polite, but said there was nothing they could do and defended their staff. I felt that they doubted me. Obviously I can't recommend this hotel.

This hotel has it all... The feel of an old hotel from back in the 20s that makes you feel that your in a special place. don't know what the others are talking about.... If you want the "Jersey Shore" go to Seaside Heights... This is an upscale place and not for riff raff. You get what you pay for and if you want a $40 a night place then you will deal with those people. The Breakers is charming and upscale as is the Chateau Inn which by the way has guests like Al Leiter (NY Yankee). And I don't think a man with that wealth would stay in a dump.

The people that we were with we had a blast with!! it wasn't the the hotel!!! It makes a good presence because you are right at the ocean!!!And it is SPRING LAKE!! But it is a very very stuffy hotel! Pretty much what was said by STAY AWAY is right to a tee!!! We had all they same issues I didn't go in the kitchen !!! It really is just the staff and how it's ran ! They have no problem to ask you to leave!! Over working something out!!! EVEN THOUGH YOU ARE PAYING THEM THEY ACT LIKE YOU OWE THEM FOR LETTING YOU STAY THERE!!! Good luck if everything works in your room!! God bless the cleaning people because it is clean!!! May be staff should get a drink on the rocks before they start maybe they will be a little more happier with there job!! And you can not hang out in rooms after they get very mad and don't try to bring anything to drink in your room !!!!!!!!!!!!! I could see if we were 17 we are in our forty's!! I"M not a nit picker but LOOSEN UP!!!And the older men at night are cranky and the biggest comment you have to wait till morning we don't no you have to see day manager!! Doesn't help at night now!!!!!!!!! Good Luck !!

I was there for a wedding. The wedding was great due to the people in it; however, a few other things could use some major help: 1) High Season versus Low Season, Holidays = High Season, rooms may be cheaper as the date of the event comes closer = they charged me more for my room than the rest of the people there because I booked earlier. They couldn’t refund me but did upgrade me. The policy sounds on paper but in practice… doesn’t work. When they say the smallest room is a Petit Queen, it’s small. May as well be a big closet with a bed & bathroom. 2) They only accept checks and ahead of time only. Once you pay and within 2 weeks of your stay, you’re out of luck. But they do need a credit card during your stay. 3) Food was bad: Cocktail hour – service/bar was great. The main meal was bad. I asked for a medium well done for my filet mignon (slight pink). I got a browned cube of meat, which was still bloody when I cut it down the center. I sent the steak back (something I NEVER do) and came back with grill marks on the center but still bloody. Being as hungry as I was; I walked into the kitchen asked for a pan to cook my own food, when the main cook took my plate and finally cooked it. The manager threw me out of the kitchen. Understandable. 4) We wanted to raise a toast/shot to a good friend serving in Iraq but the hotel DOES NOT SERVE SHOTS (check your contract)! They won’t even serve you liquor on the rocks after you ask for a shot because they’re afraid of what you might do… 5) The hotel closes at 11 and kicks you out at 10:30. There is NOTHING in the vicinity for carry on an after-party or social hang out. It’s all residential areas and you have to be quiet. 6) A friend of mine was allergic to the feathers in the pillows and comforter. The night manager didn’t know where the non feathered pillows/comforters were at all. They couldn’t sleep in their room at all and I offered for them to stay in my upgrade. I am not a party animal by any means. There’s nothing wrong with kicking back and having a great time. If you’re planning to have a wedding or venue there, I strongly urge you to take your business elsewhere. The beach theme is not worth it at the Breaker Hotel.

I thought it was a lovely hotel. We attended a banquet there recently and was not impressed. I grew up in spring lake and was looking forward to attending an event there. The service was terrible you had to chase the server for hors' dorves. And the food was below average . I have to say I'm not looking forward to another event there.

We loved every minute. Our guest were impressed and enjoyed our affair and so did we. We can not wait to go back. The staff was fantastic! Shannon did a fabulous job. The food was excellent and the rooms were great! We loved it!

My sister-in-law recently had her wedding there and we were all looking forward to "The Breakers" based upon what we heard. Unfortunately, it didn't live up to its reputation except for the beautiful ocean view. The food was average, service wasn't good at all (except for Lou the bartender!) and the guest rooms are old and need to be re-done. I wasn't impressed at all and based upon the price she paid for this wedding - it wasn't worth it. Beware.
