I worked in Portsmouth for a few months and of course my boss didn't want to spend alot of $ so he got us this. Oh and this is no joke!
The sink in the bathroom was clogged, not that big of a deal, I went to the office so they would send someone over to investigate the problem. What they did should have been a joke. About 30 mins later they sent over a man with a toilet plunger, and just handed it to us. Yes they expected us to fix it. So we got drunk and tried to fix it. As I started to plunge the sink it was like out of a movie, little turds started coming out of the drain and floating around the sink. Out boss still didn't get us a new hotel.
The staff is frendly and knolligable about the area, they are happy to help any one they can. It is a buitifull area with much to do such as enjoying the beach, golf, water county, shopping in the kittery outlets or the large malls in newghington NH (TAX FREE!), fishing, hiking, skieing, apple picking, mounten biking, the list goes on and on, did I mention great location!! And what a deal!!!!
Stayed at this motel on a spur of the moment overnight stay at the beach. the place has a terrible musty smell, the carpets are damp, the mattresses are all stained and sagging. There are rips in the lampshades and rust on the light fixtures. Slept there because we had no other choice, but when I went to lie down on the bed, there was sand all over the bedspread. All-in-all, I would have to say that it was dirty, over-priced, under-taken care of and not the safest of places. The smoke alarm in a nearby room was beeping because of a low battery all night and there was only a doorknob lock on the door. No deadbolt and no in-room safety lock. Don't do it. I won't ever stay there again.
We arrived in North Hampton on a Sat afternoon about 3 pm- and did not first ask to see a room- my mistake. We did ask for non-smoking.
Dropped off our things quickly on the two double beds - we wanted to get to dinner and to the ocean- my sons 16th birthday weekend was about to begin! Got back around 8 pm- the room smelled VERY badly after a few minutes of being in there. My son noticed cigarette holes in the bedspread...(my son is asthmatic) The carpets are filthy.... and when I used the bathroom, I found dirty wash clothes over the shower pole and opened soap in the shower.....Worse of all, the room was 60 degrees. My husband went out to the desk to ask the heat to be turned up and was told "this is September, the heat does not come on until October". We were offered a space heater - and they are dangerous and bad heat for an asthmatic....We asked for a refund and were denied. There was a hand written sign stating "no refunds" under the glass at the front desk...I should had put more thought into that when handing over the credit card. We packed up and left at 8:15pm and went down the road about one mile to "The Wren's Nest" - We were received with professional hospitality- enjoyed the hot tub and the indoor heated pool..and the room was LOVELY! (all for $25 more.....)
We were not able to go deep sea fishing the next day as scheduled- the boat was not full and my son was ill...but staying at the Wren's Nest really made for a wonderful time all by itself! I am not one to complain but the other writer indicated the health dept should check this out- and I agree. The room has small box windows close to the ceiling and are not up to code and a death trap in the event of a fire. The two other positive reviews must have taken place during past ownership...it is not quaint and was not clean. They have a lot of improvement to make to have someone think about staying the night. I will look into my credit card customer service and get my refund that way..but it would best serve me to know that others (especially with children!) would not enter into the same situation that we did.
It had all amenities that we wanted as well as a good rate. A/C, microwave and close to beach. Awesome. The rooms were spacious and clean, comfortable. Very quiet location and the cable tv and in room telephone was an added bonus.
Pine Haven Motel is a beautiful and quant little motel. It is nestled in the Pines and very close to the ocean and other attractions. We have frequented the motel on many occasions in the past and have found that the motel was run more personably when the Wilhelm family owned it. It is not quite the same anymore. It is still a great deal.
