BEWARE! BED BUG Infestation! Plus Food Poisoning!
By World Traveler, 11/16/11
DO NOT STAY IN THIS HOTEL! This is a warning to everyone considering this hotel. We stayed here and are now covered in bed bug bites! I was even able to catch one and bring it to the front desk! There are clear signs of the infestation all over the sheets. They are covered in small dark spots, the fecal remains of the bugs, which is a clear indication of the infestation. There were several other guests that I had a chance to speak with that had the same red bites as I did, so this is obviously a big problem at this resort. I brought this to the attention of the management and requested to speak with the general manager but was told that she was aware of our issue but couldn't do anything and since they had offered to have our room changed which we didn't feel was going to help since the infestation was probably across the hotel and maybe worse in other rooms. We didn't want to take that chance. We were completely appalled by the reaction and attitude of the management about this very serious issue. If this were a reputable hotel, they would have done bent over backwards to rectify this situation and immediately bring in a professional extermination crew to take care of this horrible situation. I was so disappointed with this manner of service and the way they treat their guests. This hotel does not care about their guests! Not to mention, I got food poisoning, most likely from their fish on my second day there. My husband had the same fish but my doctor said that certain types of food poisoning, especially the decaying type, can affect different parts of the fish at a different rate. So it could have been in just one bite, which I most likely had! I noticed that many of their foods were not kept at proper temperatures for instance, at their breakfast buffet, milk, which should always be kept below 38°F (3°C), was warm! It was stored in a large clear beverage container, clearly not suited to hold cold milk! Milk should be kept on ice especially when sitting for hours in a warm, humid tropical climate. If they are blatantly advertising their disregard of basic food safety rules by keeping warm milk for hours, I'm sure they are not keeping the fish at the correct temperatures either. If this sort of thing happened in the states, they would be shut down! I guess I shouldn't be surprised that management that allows such health risks doesn't care about the bed bugs either. I hope this will serve as a very serious warning to anyone considering staying here! Do so at your own risk! And, after you do, I'll be waiting for your horror stories!

Excellent Hotel & Very Caring Staff
By Louisa Chan, 4/12/09
We just had an excellent 1-week stay at the Pearl South Pacific. The hotel has excellent services, good food at very reasonable price and many activities for guests to participate. All the staff from General Manager Dean to receptionist Ana and her team, Vanessa the travel consultant and the Captain who took us to reef snorkeling took good care of us. They called us by the names which made us feel like a home away from home. The worst thing in Fiji is the very expensive transportation costs. The location of Pacific Harbor is 3 hours drive away from Nadi. If you arrive at late afternoon and beyond in Nadi when regular shuttle stops , you have to negotiate for the transportation costs to the hotel. You can try Coral Sun at the left hand side of the shops just outside the airport and FJ$50 per person is already a very good price. If you are joining any of the excursion departing from Nadi, you have to take a taxi early in the morning to Warwick Hotel for the free pick-up service. However, this 1-hour journey costs you FJ$50 one-way. Highly recommend reef snorkeling just 20 minutes opposite the hotel, the Zip Fiji and 1-day Robinson Crueso excursion. For those who want to spend a day at the Yasawa Group Island, recommend to visit only nearby islands like South Sea Island/Bounty Island/Beachcomber Island to save time and a couple of these islands have glass bottom boats for viewing corals. You can also go to Suva (capital of Fiji) for a short walk and more choices for food. Chopsticks Chinese restaurant (above HMCC) offered good and huge crab at FJ$20 each. Cutiedoggy13 Hong Kong

Perfect!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/10/09
The service at the pearl was unbeatable. The food was AMAZING! The pool was so relaxing I spent a couple of entire days lying around it. The beach is nice and warm and clear but it has black sand so doesn't appear as beautiful as it is. You must go on the snorkeling trip to Beqa lagoon and kayak up pacific harbor. The rooms were not as luxurious as they could've been but you dont want to be in your room at all. This hotel is owned by Australian expats which made it very comfortable for us (being Australian). The only downfall for me was that it is so far away form Nadi airport. It is about a 2 hour drive from anything so it was kind of impossible to do anything outside the hotel. I would not spend in excess of 5 days at this location. It would be a great location for a honeymoon... Not so great with kids. I had the best holiday of my life and would definitely return.

Nice but Pricey...............
By Ally Carbis, 4/7/08
This resort was absoluetly gorgeous. The pool is a fantastic design with umbrellas placed in the water so that you can stay cool but still out of the sun. Wonderful shallow edge for small children too. The grounds of the Pearl and the staff were all great. Our room was of standard rooms, we had a garden view room. The prices of their drinks and food, Outrageous. FD$26 for a Hamburger and side of fries. $4.50 glass of soft drink. $9.00 for a spirit. There are a few activities that go on but none that disrupt you. There are hammocks placed nicely on the edge of the resort looking out onto the beach. There is a little shopping village 15 mins walk or FD$2.50 up the road that has reaturants, a park, shopping centre where you can buy soft drinks or alcohol and nibblies. if you fly in Nadi you have a 3hr coach trip to the resort. We had a 2yr old with us and she was very much accepted in the resort. If just wanting to kick back with no interuptions, you'll love it here, just be prepared for the food prices, which also, very small range to choose from, but yummy once chosen.........

Racial Bias in the South Pacific
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/20/08
We liked the location, the view, the attention to decor detail and what it appeared to offer. We had to leave another resort because of lack of cleanliness; we went to this one against our better judgment, knowing before going in that the owner had an on-checked bias when it came to race. He preferred to see the darker people in the role of serving. He assumed that we could not be guests in his hotel and asked us to leave, though his meals and services were stated to be open to people from our resort. We made it a point to become guests at his place and he still treated us like we were trying to take something from him. I witnessed the interrogation he put one of his employees through just to make sure we were guests. He did not want us in his hotel and he knew nothing about us. It was an uncomfortable though necessary stay.

Stay here for 4 days in October 2007 and was very disappointed. The room was raggedy. The walls had poorly repaired cracks and were in serious need of repainting. The bath tub had water calcium deposits and rust stains. The sliding window cover was off its tracks and hard to move. The tile floor was worn and in need of updating. The restaurant menu selection was limited, very expensive, slow and poorly prepared. I ordered an omelet for breakfast and it was served burnt and I had to go find out why it was taking so long. The best qualites of the resort was the kindness of the people who work there and the dive operation. We saw a lot of great dive sites and the dive crew was very helpful.

Coolest design for Island resort
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/27/06
Here I have to leave a long review. This is the hip and clean resort with all the coolest furnitures(all shipped from Indonesia) and modern interiors everywhere. The new owners did a wonderful job to make this resort more like a rich people's house. No sign or letters eanywhere- just wonderful modern design concept.(reminded me bit of Standard hotel in LA) Not a big size resort at all but it has everything except Gym and a cheap snack bar. I was there for 9 days for honeymoon. We didn't know it's located 2 1/2 hours away from the Nadi airport.(1hr from Suva airport) It's also located in Wetside of the island-meaning more likely you get shower rain and clouds over the sky. We had 4 days sunny out of the whole 8 days trip. I was frustrated and sad but here's the real treat-people and the atmosphere make up for the cloudy days. Westside near Nadi is where all the island cruise-trips and actions are-so be prepare you need to get up real early- (like 5 or 6 am) to get to Nadi to get on the day cruise. However this inconveniece gave us opportunities to exprience quiet different style of honeymoon. People at the hotel are super nice- they are so friendly that I was hanging out every night with them just getting the information- telling them my stories-they invited us over to local church and we had real Fijian Sunday lunch and drank KAVA. The area is more known for shark scuba diving than main stream beach tourism. On the final night, Jesse, Joe, Jones Tara, Rasalo, Anna, Sitiven, I forgot thre older bartender's name-and other workers at Hotel took us out for bonfire party. It was the most romantic experience we had- I miss all of you, you fill my heart and they sang for us, we party till 5 am. Fiji is a lot different than Hawaii or Carribean islands. You need to spend time with Local Fijian people or Indian people at City to understand how these people learn to accept their life. It's quite spitirual and I thank all of them at Hotel for make me realize how spoiled we are. I recommend this hotel with only one condition. You need to understand the climate of the region. Otherwise you will have to come out to westside to be under the sun. Also it's next to beautiful golf course-with Green fee is only 25 bucks. But bring your golf club-they charge more for rental. We did a Jet ski safari and it was unreal experience. We were on the jet ski for 2 1/2 hrs(nealry 60 km trip) This trip was real eye opener for me and I felt home everyday we came back from trip to village, river, kayaking, jet skiing, island cruise to Castaway island, even we took a local bus to go to Suva. I miss everyone at Pearl. We will go back just to see them again and have coconut bonfire party. I miss you guys. One more thing, Dennis Rodman stayed while we were there:)

I need update
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/29/06
I was there in Feb 2002 and it was fine, Feb 2004 It was closing for renovations as we arrived. I am thinking of returning to Pacific Harbor Feb 2007, Is the renovations done, and is the dining room up to par for an evening meal? Best thing about the area is the quiet beautiful beach, a end of the world place to relax.

Right place wrong management
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/8/05
The hotel although having been recently renovated is just too dark and very very poor lighting. Front dest was the best service and downhill form there . The cafe/breakfast area service was atorcious. on 2 occasions we waited 40 minutes to be served our coffee. The food and beverage manager is very unprofessional. A shame give that managed propely the hotel has great potential.
