See u there again!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/9/07
BEACHCOMBER really is the party island of FIJI!!! i had such a great time...theres a lot of backpackers there from all over the world and its great socialising and getting to know everyone and the bar is great!!! the dancing and the music and the atmosphere at night is awesome. The only thing is trying to get up in time for breakfast the next morning i stayed in a bure and it was great....really comfy and nice temperature for the hot weather outside. I also stayed in the lodge one night and they are really nice as well. I also sleeped in the dorm one night as well. It was pretty good for the price you pay! The food was okay...the dinners are nice...lots of variety as well with 'normal' food and also fijian food Beachcomber was great! i cant wait to go back again and do the bula dance!!!

Beautiful Beachcomber, and so much FUN!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/28/06
As someone who normally stays in 5 star resorts I was a bit sceptical about Beachcomber before I arrived. But I was there for 4 days and LOVED it. Though I did get sick of curry for lunch every day, the pina colada's were fantastic, the staff were sooo friendly and the beach was divine. The weather was the best and just what I needed to break up a long cold Melbourne winter! I recommend, if you're slightly older (I'm in my early 30's) staying in a beachfront bure. That way you're right on the beach and can retreat to your own space when things get too crazy! Bure number 6 is fantastic as you step down from it's deck straight onto the beach. We didn't leave the island for the entire time, though I do recommend bringing a few food supplies from the mainland, good for when you get a bit peckish with that afternoon pina colada! And if you're really lucky, you may meet someone fabulous, just like I did! ;-) Make sure you have a massage too!

raves/the blast from the past.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/9/06
Reading about B/Comber brings back a lot oof good memories. Our fote back then was windsurfing and anyone who was their back in 1986 will remember moi and Danny Boy Costello.Boy did we have some wild times.Growing up as a local on a resort like that and knowing the local lingo and understanding the custom[s] of the islands really gave us an advantage over anyone else.[and being boys ....we really made good use of it.]The people we met and the kava party[s] we had were famous. The greatest moment of any day was waking up to 20knots + winds....that was a rush Anyways again just reading some of the comms above sounds like the island is slipping a bit and needs to get reved up to its former glory?????????? cheers Dreds.

Excellent value
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/7/06
I was there in 1987. It was great fun; great food; clean rooms for $20 (sleeps 4 but I stayed by myself ). By then it didn't have any of the amenities. Amazing sunsets!!! Kava drink prepared by locals was a traditional touch. The owners were so friendly; they shared their in coconut milk cooked fish every night. Unforgettable! I am planning on going back this summer.

Beachcomber...where the beach meets the comber...? Not long until I return to the Island.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/1/05
Beachcomber Island is such a great place for anyone to visit or stay. I am a 20 year old male that went alone for diving and planned on diving for a week but ended up spending all my money on extending my stay to 3 weeks. The greatest thing about this island is the genuine staff which are mostly young and friendly. I ended up going back to the mainland and stayed with 3 different staff in their villages. They are really friendly people which took me under their wings which turned me into a local spending most of my time at staff quarters and helping out at the marine shed, taking out dive boats, jet ski's and anything to help out which gained their trust and respect. I have made life long friendships at beachcomber and cant wait to go back to see everyone. The good points about the comber is; -staff -the bar -nightlife -the tourist are friendly -nice small island -the food -good accomm. -location The bad things about the comber is; -The huge dorm is good, most people think about others and keep quiet but music can still be heard from the bar, I heard from other back packers the dorm is amazing compared to other dorms theyve staying in in Fiji and Australia -The food is served at a set time from a buffet (set menu) which i didnt mind but some people seem to care, good food though -The island can be a bit to small (about a 10-15 minute walk around the perimeter) to stay on for a long time, not alot of activities and can get repetitive, mana or plantation are good for activities -some activities equipment is abit outdated like mask and snorkel sets -expensive to hire main equip. such a jet ski is expensive -Also with the location, you can see the mainland and treasure island is just a kayak away, some people like to be in the middle of no where. When i do go back I plan on staying just a few nights as I do feel abit like the staff but I plan to go back to plantation where I have been twice and feel that its just a little better for me as I prefer to explore. Overall Beachcomber is a must if your in Fiji and day trips are available and the boats that take you there are excellent. Fiji is an amazing place that will probably turn into a visit every 6 months. MaTT

College Kids Paradise
By Meagan, 9/26/05
I was here in 1999 and stayed a week. Back then it was 35 bucks a night and you got a bunk bed in the huge bunkhouse and all meals. Some friends got a bure for a few bucks more a night and it was fun too they said. I remember every morning having fresh fruit and omlettes to order. I got the best tan I have ever had down there for some reason. The sun is amazing and the water is beautiful.
