Afternoon High Tea disappointing
By ,
Made a special visit to the "Pen" for afternoon high tea expecting high expectations as we were told before we left Australia 'we must visit the Pennisula Hotel for Afternoon High Tea'. Very high class hotel with it's old world charm and own musical quartet. Received our high tea and first level, tasted the scones - very dry and crummy. I looked like a old cow chewing it's cud they were that bad. CWA ladies would be disgusted as I was with these scones. Next level the good old cucumber and cream cheese, ham sandwiches that unfortunately seemed like they had been sitting on the plate for ages as the bread had gone stale! Last level, pastries and desserts that were OK considering the rest of the afternoon tea disappointment. Then the waiters brought you a little coffee dessert to finish off, that wasn't too bad considering. The tea was lovely in the silver jugs but one only got two cups. As soon as you were finished the plates were taken away and bill presented. I've had far better Afternoon high teas for $25 AUD in Australia eg: Bayview Lounge Darling Harbour Sydney - highly recommended. Unfortunately the Pennisula Hotel didn't do it for me and was over $300HK per person but I suppose one has to pay for the old world charm of the hotel. The Pennisula Hotel really need to work on making decent light and fluffy scones.

Not to my standards
By ,
I have stayed at many great hotels in Hong Kong. The Four Seasons, The Mandarin Oriental, The Ritz-Carlton. This hotel just did not meet my standards. I was astonished when no one even cracked a smile. I was not impressed by the rooms either. They all seemed so old and in need of refurbishment. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Hong Kong.

For the price it was okay
By ,
The lobby is beautiful. The beds are hard like a rock and the shower is small. We ate at their famous chinese restaurant and found hair in our tea. We had absolutely no view of the city and we suposedly were staying in the upgraded room. The concierge was very helpful and the staff are very friendly.

The Fabulous Pen
By ,
Start out with having a Rolls Royce pick you up at the airport and deliver you to the The Peninsula in Hong Kong and you'll understand why it is a legendary luxury hotel! The "Pen" is a Kowloon landmark located on Victoria Harbour and offering spectacular views of Hong Kong. Consistently ranked as one of the top hotels in the world, facilities include the fabulous spa with its unique indoor/outdoor swimming pool, a fully equipped health club and a sun terrace overlooking Victoria Harbour. A wonderful way to escape from the hectic Hong Kong day! Gaddi's restaurant has long been the stellar French Restaurant in Hong Kong and Felix on the rooftop, designed by Philippe Starck is definitely the place to see and be seen. It offers spectacular views of all of Hong Kong, Kowloon and the Harbour. Of course, one must have afternoon tea in the spacious and gracious lobby! The Peninsula's tradition of excellent service stretches over 70 years and you will be treated royally during your stay at the Pen. If Hong Kong itself did not offer so much excitement, there would be no reason at all to leave the hotel!
