10 reviews for Blue Sky Motel, Gettysburg
Great motel 5 minutes north of Gettysburg, Pa
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/12/09
Loved the motel, the location (5 min. north of Gettysburg, PA, in a beautiful countryside setting), the staff, the pool, and the price. The rooms are comfortable with plenty of room, with front and back door porches with plenty of chairs to enjoy the views. The beds are older and not as comfortable, but bearable when you consider the price. Lots of beautiful gardens surround the motel too.

We will go back.
By joni, 02/17/09
We stayed 5 nights and they were great. Very accomodating staff. We are planning another trip in June and we will definately try them again. It's not the ritz, but it was clean and quiet.

No longer a AAA motel for a reason
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/27/07
My family stayed at the Blue Sky Motel twice before when the motel had a AAA rating - once in the 1980's and again in 1998. But since the AAA stamp of approval was removed several year ago, the place has gone down hill. We rented the kitchenette room #6. The rug was frayed and duct taped to the floor. The were missing silverware and place settings. When we asked for additional silverware there was none available. The refrigerator was missing the two vegetable drawers and the bars in the refrigerator door that would containers. The tv cord was laid across the access to the bathroom and covered with an unsecured plastic covering - an easy way to trip and become injured. The water in the shower came out so forceably that after the person taking a shower could hardly stand up. So much water came out while taking a shower that after one minute there was ankle deep water in the tub. Meanwhile there was a drought in Gettysburg and a mandatory water conservation order in effect. There was no tv guide for the tv stations and none available at the office. There is a saying - you get what you pay for. This is quite true at the Blue Sky Motel. Any visitors to Gettysburg - do yourself a favor - stay in town and pay a little more. The savings at Blue Sky Motel is not worth it.

Don't waste your money!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/03/07
Don't believe their slogan that although it's not The Ritz, they're clean. This motel may have been cheap, but I think we paid too much! The carpet was sticky, moldy bathrooms, and there were flies and ants everywhere that ended up in all of my toiletries. Since they don't provide anything except 2 small bars of soap, I had to buy all new stuff. Creepy family owns the motel and they apparently live there because they were hanging out around the office when we checked in. All the people around the office stared at us as we walked in and were speaking Spanish, making us feel QUITE unwelcome! Their pool looked pretty from what we could see through the fence as it was closed all weekend. We also requested a NON-SMOKING room and it was smelly from smoke beyond belief! Don't waste your money, save up for a name-brand chain, trust me!

i had a good experience
By Jenna, 07/31/07
Maria one of the owners was great. She was so polite and accomodated our every need..and we stayed a week. The room was gorgeous we had a deck 2 dbl beds and a sleeper sofa.there were 4 of us staying in the room.. It is outside of gettysbug about 6 miles but thats a good thing, it was quiet and peaceful to go back there at night and just be able to relax in peace instead of listening to the noise of a busy street and lots of people walking around. Driving 10 mins down the road in the morning wasnt bad. I would definatly go here again. Im disappointed at the bad reviews this motel has had because i had such a different experience.

Trying to be kindly honest.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/16/07
First of all, its not in Gettysburg. It's in Biglersville - like 6 miles away from G burg. My room was $85 for a weekday (with tax)for one person. I would expect a nice room for $85.00. It is off the beaten path for anything touristy, but on a busy noisy road which is an issue upon itself. Built in the 1920's (?)it shows its age. My towel was so thin and worn, it was likely one of the originals. Bed spread was worn, but it appeared to be laundered. No available ice unless you go to the office (in the limited hours it is open) and the desk clerk then goes into her private kitchen (which is unseeable to you)as it is her home and retrieves a baggie full for you.I'll give her the benefit of the doubt it was clean, and at least it was ice. My bedroom window had a broken latch on it. I felt very unsafe about this. But the WORST was the SEE THROUGH CURTAINS!I felt the whold world could see me the whole time I was in my room - because I could see out. One guest said she had put her thin towels up over her windows for privacy (I only got ONE towel in my room so could not even do that). I am just trying to be honest about my experience here. No internet acess. I don't like staying in overpriced G-burg, so the next night I went 30 miles to Chambersburg, had a GREAT room for only $52.00 - had towels that were SOFT, curtains that gave me privacy, everything worked and I got a free breakfast. I hope this helps you.

It Should Be Called The Black Sky Motel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/23/06
We found this motel online. The pictures for the place looked great. My first clue should have been that they were asking for a 48 hours cancellation notice. When we arrived there were all kinds of shady characters walking around drinking and carrying mattresses from one room to another. The roofs of the units were covered in plastic. When we asked to see the room the man was not very nice, but agree and sent us with the housekeeping woman. When she open the door immediatly I looked for the deck that was surpose to be there and it was not. The room was very tiny unlike what the picture on the internet was showing and the rooms smelled very musty and stale. After viewing the rooms we then went to speak with the manager. He was very rude when I told him that the room does not look like that on the internet. He demanded one nights fee, which he called the cancellation fee. I realize that we back out of the room with good cause and a minimal fee should be charged but a whole nights worth, that hardly seems fair. Being the kind of people that we are we did pay for the night. The man presumably the owner was rude and took offense that we didnt want to sleep in a smelly room. Keep to your standards. Don't let this happen to you..... Always verify what a place looks like before you take it at face value on the internet.... Things always look nicer in print??????? We ended up at "America's Best Choice Hotel", they were wonderful and knowing what we went through with the motel they even gave a discount. Now that is customer service with a smile.........

buyer beware
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/03/06
we saw this place on the internet and it had more stars/ diamonds than most others so we assumed it was good..the pictures looked real nice, however we arrived and it looked like an old moldy motel, there was a blue tarp on the roof over one of the rooms and it looked like it needed renovations..my wife asked to look at the room and of course they took us to the one with the tarp on the roof and it smelled moldy and the walls looked like the ones in the picture but much older and worn, there was hardly any room to walk around the beds. The owner said he couldn't help it cause there was flood damage but when we told him we weren't happy with this at all he still hit us with a cancellation fee of over $76.!! because you have to cancel within 48hrs!!! How can you know what to expect within 48hrs other than the beautiful pictures they show on the web!!! This happened to my friends family as well as they were accompanying us on our trip so this motel got another $76 for nothing!!! If there was flood damage or problems I got a tip for these people: good business is not to enforce cancellations and expect guests to put up with your problems!!

Good Value for a short drive.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/31/06
I liked the value of the place. We had a family kind of room with 2 double beds & a sleeper sofa with a fridge & microwave. It was an older property but it was clean & quiet. The pool was in good condition but we didn't have time to use it. The staff was friendly. They were helpful at setting up our tour packages & phoned in to reserve us a spot. We would stay there again if we ever get to come back to Gettysburg. The only bad thing was.. it was approx 20 min down the road from Gettysburg.
