there was a time when this was a top rated stay...
however it is obvious that Stonefence has seen better days. That said, my kids (ages 11 and 13) and myself did enjoy a pleasant stay in one of their Townhouses. My kids loved the loft concept, the A/C was excellent (hottest weekend of the year), the room clean and tidy, and the pool clean and simply excellent to swim in! The grounds were spacious and well kept and pleasant to walk about. The gazebo with the gas BBQ was well maintained and the dockside Gazebo that extended out just a short way on the River was very, very nice.
Now to the downside - the restaurant was only open for a free continetal breakfast between 7-9am and it was poor to passable at best. The games room suffered from neglect with some of the games not working at all. Same for the lone treadmill dubbed as the exercise facility.
The Townhouses are setup like semi-detached units where the front porch is shared. Our neighbors were a group of 20-somethings attending a wedding and we were woke up in the early hours with their return from the wedding. Again in the morning we woke to the porch being covered in beer bottles and cigarette butts. The staff obviously missed the boat on where to acocmodate people.
The staff was friendly to us though I detected a sense of resignation about things. When I inquired about the closing of the restaurant the impression I got was since the ownership change things weren't the same anymore.
Would I stay again? Hard to say. Our stay was nice but you could easily see that "things were lacking" and a major disappointment was the non-restaurant. The kids and I had to drive into town for pizza for our dinner. And the price of the Townhouse was on the high side considering the overall state of the complex.
I booked based on what the website stated and I neglected to read the reviews. If I had read the reviews most likely I would not have stayed. That said, our stay worked out ok.
