Wonderful inn, good food.
This adorable inn features everything Amish . Although not run by the Amish, the rooms shows the beautiful workmanship of the Amish woodworkers. The rooms are nicely decorated and feature adornments of Amish life. The inn features hot coffee and delicious cookies through out the day.
All of Middlebury and Shepsewana stores close at 5:00 and there is no night life. The das essen haus restaurant is open until 8:00, and they do have shopping throughout. the complex. Bring book or take pleasure in the pool or just relax.
We have been coming to the restaurant for close to 40 years, and have seen the improvements along the way.
As far as the food, we tried something different. They feature the fabulous family style meal, and individual menu choice. They now offer a buffet starting at 4:00. Since the family style meal is much to much for us these days, we opted for the buffet.
I was disappointed. It was not worth the $10.25. There was certainly plenty of food, but it did not included the quality of the family style dinners. Your drink and pie is extra.
The buffet featured chicken along with another special of the day, which happened to be meatloaf, which was not too tasty. For desert there was no pie but they did have a delicious mint brownie.
What I am saying, is that the family style meal would not be more than a dollar or two more and I believe the food is better. That meal includes chicken with either beef or ham. It also has salad, roll, mashed potatoes, deliciously cooked plump noodles, with chicken, dressing, gravy, vegetables, plus with no extra charge your drink and your choice of a zillion different pies. We will go back to the family style dinner the next time.
