One advice, do not give your credit card number to Hotel Jaguar in Cahuita ‘cause they’ll automatically charge 50% of your 2-day stay or 30% or your 3+day stay… And if you try to cancell even 5 days in advance, they do not refund. Stay away from them. Dominique

Traveling with pets can be a challenge, but this hotel welcomed our dog and 2 cats. The rooms were large, clean and very airy. No need for airconditioning but our room did have a floor fan. With plenty of windows and great views we needed blankets not airconditioning. The new owners of about 2 years have been busy making improvements. Although the restaurant now only serves breakfast and sandwiches we did not find that inconvenient. They did however serve a very nice meal for New Years Eve. We were given a key to the very neat and clean communal kitchen which had all the conveniences needed to prepare any meals we chose, and of course there are multiple restaurants within walking distance. The grounds were beautiful and seeing a howler monkey in a tree by the very clean pool, a family of sloths in the trees near the beach, horses and other native animals was quite a treat. You can rent a bike on the grounds, visit the book store/exchange or arrange a tour. The beach is just across the road and a great place to collect driftwood and shells.The staff was more than helpful and I would not hesitate to stay here again.

I agree with the poor revues from 05 and o6, but it has been renovated. In the last 12 months I have stayed at the Jaguar three times. Modest,but clean. Across the street from ocean with safe beach, no rip tide warnings, no rocks and plenty of shade.

I`ve noted that all the reviews are old. I don`t think they represent the real situation of the hotel. Now they have a international, italian, creole cuisine, with a new Pizzeria too. I`ve seen a beautiful calypso concert in the new restaurant. They have a lot of proyect about music. The gardens are simply beautiful, and the first block of 10 rooms have minibar and coffe maker too. I also recommend this place, for the prices. 4 or more people spend $25 per night per room, with a communal kitchen, or $35 in standard room with 2 queen size beds, or $45 in the first block.

The web site is the best aspect of this place. it is downhill from the driveway. We thought we had a great place to spend our holiday but it was bad. The rooms needed cleaning and we worried about the so called screens on the window. The ocean was noisy and not a good place to swim. When we asked about the chlorine in the pool the attendent sniffed a handful of water and said "yes it has chlorine." It is sad it may have seen better days but when the chef- proprietor went to San Jose before we got our meal we decided one night was enough and left for better digs.

This "hotel" is 50% abandoned, the rooms are run down and badly maintained. the staff are underpaid and therefore indifferent. this was a investment scheme by a canadian accountant who received large sums of money from investors and surely didn't put it into the "hotel" it looks like one of those road side motels in a mid-united states that are being operated on a shoestring. "pura vida" yea, sure.

The Hotel Jaguar in Costa Rica is far from new as claimed on their website, and the only food they now serve is a very mediocre breakfast. The staff is overworked and somewhat on the surly side. The rooms are big, but depressingly sparse and not all that clean. The reviews that are quoted must be quite old (my guess in that they are from the 1990's when this place WAS new. I would not recommend this place to a friend, and I would be leery of recommending 1000inns.com as a means of finding nice accommodations based on our recent stay at the Hotel Jaguar.

The Hotel Jaguar is a beautiful, quite and nice place. Excelent location near Cahuita National Park. Great!!!!
