Relaxing
My boyfriend and I just spent 3 nights at Blancaneaux after spending time on the cayes. Blancaneaux was the perfect relaxing ending to our vacation. It rained just about the whole time, but we didn't mind just reading and relaxing, getting massages, eating wonderful food, and soaking in the perfect hot pool. The last half of the 2.5 hour drive from Belize City is bumpy, but not scary and kind of fun. Our drivers, Ramon and Hugh, were like tour guides in their own right. We also did the long day trip to Tikal. While it was great, we don't recommend going in heavy rain because the road in Guatemala is really bad, and many cars and buses got stuck (it's supposed to be paved some time in 07, but they've been saying that for a long time). Our Tikal tour guide Armando was excellent and enthusiastic and seemed to have unlimited knowledge of the site and Mayan history; request him if you can. All in all it was worth it. We stayed in two rooms, the family cabana and honeymoon cabana: both were very nice for different reasons, but we preferred the family. The whole experience was very expensive, but you get what you pay for.
