Review's are all FALSE!
By ENS, 7/6/10
Do NOT book a room here, the website and reviews are deceiving. Booked a weekend here and couldn't even stay longer than 24 hrs- I had to switch hotels immediately. The hotel smells and looks like it hasn't been cleaned. The beds are horrendous and I did not sleep at all because the sheets made me itchy and was scared to sleep because the hotel was so bad. The elevator is like 5x5 and people got stuck screaming in the elevator at midnight. The bar area smells like raid and nothing looks clean. For the cost of the room, I found an incredible room at the Courtyard Marriott for the same exact price and was very glad I switched hotels. I would not recommend this hotel for others- it is skeevy and very unclean. However, the staff was nice

lovely art deco
By DM, 5/31/08
Great location, lovely art deco lobby, nice porch and breakfast, clean modern room. Could walk to great restaurants and to the beach. Only negative is that there was a lot of construction going on nearby. Pool is tiny. Would stay there again and recommend it.

Do not book
I do a lot of traveling and it was by far, for the money, was of the worst choices I've made in a long time as far as hotels. I've stayed in South Beach a number of times but not here and never again. No movie channels-no phone book- no coffee maker in room. Water for shower just dripped out. No stopper for a bath. Floor looked as if it weren't cleaned from previous visitor.

Not what I imagined
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/19/06
This hotel is shabby, and it needs to be spruced up a bit. I know that the hotels in the art deco district are into "restoration," but the room we stayed in was not nearly as clean as any motel room I've ever been in. The staff was friendly and helpful, but the hotel is in desperate need of some housekeeping! I guess it really encourages people to spend their time outside and not in the rooms.... We were able to hear the conversations of the people next door to us, as well! Yuck! I would definitely spend a little more and stay in a better place, or skip the trip altogether : (

In need of a good cleaning
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/1/06
Staff what staff!! Carpets should of been lifted 10 year ago, in need of a good cleaning all over. What was advertised and what you get is not quite correct...!!! Hidden charges at end of holiday, very disapointing.

By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/13/05
location, location, location! just one block off the best beach in florida, with a small and comfortable pool. this hotel is a bargain, and should be on everyone's favorite list. we've been their twice, and still is our favorite art deco hotel in south beach.

Stayed at Essex
By Goldmember, 6/28/05
Stayed with my wife at the Essex hotel on the last night of our trip to Florida and we were pretty surprised the hotel was not up to above average standards. The rooms smelt of smoke heavily and the bed spread had iron marks on it. Then the next day they were doing lots of construction in the hallway, so it made it quite noisy in the morning. Overall, I felt the hotel to be very average. There is convenient parking located near by the hotel, which is good if you have a car.

Miami gem
By Felicia, 5/24/05
The Essex House Hotel was very close to the beach and restaurants. The quaint building made up for the lack of size in the big hospitality and quietness. We have stayed in larger hotels close to this hotel and could hardly rest due to the noise, Essex is very quiet yet close to all the action. The bathrooms are a bit small, but the bedroom is spacious. The nice soap and lotion gifts in the bathroom are of spa qualit and I have ordered them for home use.

A Hidden Gem!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/24/05
I have stayed here many times over the years and the staff always remebers me when I come back. Thce servie is wonderful and the location couldn't be better. Though not right on the ocean they do feature ma small quaint pool and it is only 1 block away from the hottest part of the Miami strip(restaurants/clubs/shopping). Not to mention only a few blocks away from my favorite place to eat The News Cafe. The regular rooms are small BUT ask for one of the suites(not much more $)and you will find yourself in a beautiful suite with a huge bathroom(including 2 person jacuzzi tub and a tv) and a spacious sitting area with a wet bar that faces a small court yard.

Major dissapointment
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/18/05
You would think for how much money they make they could at least paint the room. Room was filthy with furniture old and in disrepair.Hotel in nice area with a nice reception area but thats it. Hallways dingy and worn.I took my date there and she asked to leave.
