Convenient
By Mitchell, 4/26/12
The hotel is very conveniently located in Metropole Avenue. It's not up a hill, unlike some of the hotels around Avalon, but be aware that there are many steps to climb. It's all of a minute's walk from Crescent Avenue and Casino Way, Avalon's main streets, with their shops and cafes. Mark, the manager, and the staff were all friendly, welcoming and helpful, and the stay just what we wanted for a budget overnighter (it came to about $56 each). I have no complaints at all. Yes, I'm sure it gets noisier in the peak season, but I wouldn't go to the island then anyway; it's shoulder-to-shoulder crowds! For a simple place to leave one's luggage and get a comfortable night's sleep, I certainly recommend the Hermosa Hotel.

very good
By love2hike, 4/5/12
I stayed at the Hermosa Hotel several times over the years and have really come to love it. This is a small older quaint place which was built in the late 1800’s. They are the most diver friendly hotel on the island, offering a gear wash station, discounts with partner dive shops and got out of their way to throw lessons in!!!

Great Deal
By Lucky, 3/16/12
I cannot say enough about the Hermosa Hotel. Both my Aunt and myself care for my Grandmother and never get a break. My Uncle came in to take over for a week and even though we couldn’t afford it, I hopped online and found a great deal at the Hermosa. The entire staff walked us through the reservation and we spent a great week at the hotel!!!

Simple and clean
By Fly, 3/1/12
Granted The Hermosa is no Hilton, but its not meant to be ... nor does it pretend to be ... The personnel was kind and courteous the owner friendly ... the cottages were simple.. clean free of clutter... Wifi was available in the lobby overall a very nice hotel for a very reasonable price..

Every summer
By vow, 2/28/12
My wife and I have been staying at the Hermosa Hotel and Cottage nearly every summer for a decade now and love the place. We're well-traveled, spoiled, are lucky enough to have lived abroad or vacationed in some of the world's great places--Bali, Tuscany and Liguria and Umbria, Mexico, Virgin Islands--and we wouldn't stay anywhere else on Catalina (which is, by the way, the cheapest trip to the Mediterranean any West Coaster can take). Do we stay there just because it's cheap? Sure, but that's not the main reason: It's "period" Catalina, its funkiness is history, and the point of going to Catalina, for us anyway, is to get away from the fast-food-contemporary/franchise-hotel lifestyle of the mainland. Besides, it's central located in Avalon--everything within an easy walk--and the staff is as friendly and efficient as the staff at Johnny Rocket's on Melrose.

Not worth paying 200$ for Gross Nasty ..
By khurelee t, 7/11/11
Okay,...they charge you almost 200$ for tiny little room. The room wasn't even clean when we checked in. So we had to call the cleaning lady. ...And that night i got bug bites. I am guessing they might have bed bugs. So me and my boyfriend supposed to stay two nights there. So we checked out there next day....we asked refund. The owner says we're geting 50 $ refund. My boyfriend told him you guys charge 200$ per night why can't you guys keep this place in better shape. The owner called my boyfriend a Dick !!! ..............wow, just nothing to say don't go there.

Perfect little place....
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/16/11
We stayed here for 3 nights. It was in a great location close to everything. A Vons grocery store was a close neighbor (just steps away) in which we could stock up on drinks & snacks and store them in our in room fridge. The room was clean and we had a flat screen in ours. Quaint feel and the staff were very accommodating and pleasant. To be able to leave your bags there even after you check out is awesome since our boat does not arrive until 4:30 and check out is at 11am. I would definately stay here again because of the service, location, and price. This is not a five star hotel so do not expect white glove service. We came here for the first time with no expectations and just wanted a place to sleep and shower since we had lots of activities we would be engaging in. The room served its purpose and my husband and I were very happy. We would stay here again and use the $$ we saved to spend on the fun activities this island has to offer. I can't wait to come back!! Thank you Hermosa!!

Cheap, Great location, staff is unlike any other!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/21/10
I loved the location of the Hermosa; I loved the staff, and I loved the weather! Couldn't beat the price; I think the Hermosa Hotel's prices were nearly $50 cheaper per person from the next cheapest hotel. Don't remember exactly, just remember it was a no brainer when we got to their prices, lol. They recently starting using an Ozone Generator to shock clean the rooms; quite awesome. So even tho it's old, the rooms smell "thunderstorm fresh" and clean. The hotel staff gave me about 20 recommendations because I kept bugging them and they were happy to help every time. I think the most important part of any hotel stay is how the staff treats/welcomes you. If the staff sucks, the hotel sucks. If the staff is awesome, the hotel becomes awesome and your trip rocks. Hermosa Hotel accomplishes that. I will go back.

Will NEVER go back!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/28/09
This place is wrong in many ways. Not only are the rooms old and smelly, The springs in the mattresses just about poke through. Forget about a good nights sleep. The day laborers who "live" in the cottages sit under your window all night (and most of the day) smoking and talking. The employees are aware of it but just roll their eyes.
