Worst place we ha ve ever stayed
By Carol, 10/15/09
Parking is first come, first serve, otherwise, find what you can, where you can. We had reservations (called about 2 weeks ahead), but they had no record of it, even though we had the confirmation number. We were quoted a price, and the guy (owner) said no way we would be told that price. So ended up paying $50.00) A NIGHT more, and that was w/ a break he was willing to give us.. Of course the town was full, so no room at any other Inn. Well, loaded the cart w/ suitcases, and the had to lift the cart over a 8" step. Band played until 2. we were on the 3rd floor, and it sounded like they were just in the hall outside our door, and the floor was vibrating. No heat, air coming in all around the air conditioner. They had to get us a space heater. Band played the next night too. Only good thing, bed was comfortable, and godd breakfast. It was very clean, but they had an electricle fire the day before, and had the cleaning service in all night, and day to get smoke and smell out. Oh, when we checked out, he made the bill out for more then he had said when we checked in. My husband told him about it, and he asked "who gave you that price" and my husband said "you did, and I signed a paper for it. The guy was very rude, and was upset because he had to give us a credit for the overcharge, There was a lady there complaining about the loud band and noise, and he jus basically blew her off. DON'T STAY HERE!

Don't waste your money

Parking extremely limited. Not enough spaces for guests, it's first come first serve. Room was not very up-to-date and we didn't feel safe on their elevator. We didn't feel it was worth the money. There are a lot nicer places to stay in Lake Placid.

could be better
By skippy, 10/01/07
I stayed at the Northwoods Inn in August and it was perfect in the fact it was in the heart of the Village and you could walk everwhere. The resturaunt was wonderful and the service exceptional. The room left alot to be desired, although clean and comfortable it needed upgrading big time. the halls were dark and they left the fire escape windows open all night, serious security risk, the view was terrible , we over looked the back parking lot, but who needs a view when your out walking. All in all I'd say it was worth the money I paid $109.00 per night, but if I had paid more, I would not have been happy.

Beware of overcharges
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/24/07
Called for reservation, 2 nights.$79.00 per.Didn't have any record of me at check-in.Paid bill, got receipt, under $190.00 no red flag.2 weeks go by.Received credit card statement, they charged me twice, for a total of $304.00. Won't return my calls for an explanation.Very unprofessional.

Great affordable lodging in Lake Placid
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/24/07
As a part of the Summitt Lacrosse Tournament, Ohio Wesleyan University had a group of alumni who stayed at the Northwoods. We were in lovely suites, which had recently been renovated, on the sixth floor. The view was spectacular, and we had all the amenities we needed. The location was superb, and the service was tremendous. We were very well taken care of by all of the staff. Our university also hosted a rooftop party on a Saturday evening at the Northwoods. It was, by far, the best venue for a gathering in LP that we've utilized in the 7 years that we've been participating in the tournament. The food was excellent, and the view was breathtaking. I would definitely return to the Northwoods, and recommend it highly to others.

What a dump
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/12/07
We have stayed in 4 hotels in Lake Placid. We go up every year for the Ironman race. Decided to give this place a try for its central location. Elevator was scary. Can't imagine last time it was inspected. Chose to huff the 2 kids and stroller up the stairs each time, to insure our safe return to NYC. You won't believe this, but the small side window fell out, into the room, onto my Mother-in-law's head. Honestly. Beds were old and sloping twords the middle. Sad part is that it is an old hotel with nice size rooms, and it could be a gem....but it is a horror show. Sleep in the car or under a tree first.

Watch Out
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/14/06
When you make a reservation at the Northwoods Inn, you will NOT be told that: 1. Your credit card will IMMEDIATELY be charged. 2. Their cancellation policy is 14 DAYS, not the usual 24 hours. You may find out if you get a confirmation in the mail before you go. The front desk folks seem to be too busy talking to their colleagues or answering the phone to be attentive to customers. When you can get their attention, they are brisk and unhelpful. In addition to the unexpected, unusual, and unwelcome payment procedures, inter-room noise, spotty maintenance, and a casual front desk plague this old downtown hotel that is trying to make a comeback.

love it
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/30/06
we loved it very much, the only suggestion we have is, you should have some high stools so you can look at the beautiful view from the room. We can't wait to come back. Patty & Rick Rodgers

AVOID AVOID AVOID!!
By Merle, 10/15/06
FIRST OFF, DISREGARD the picture of a hotel with it's back on the water. It sits on the other side of the street with businesses blocking any water view of Mirror Lake. We where on the 5th floor, with our balconey overlooking the parking lot and the dumpsters. Oh yeh, the balcony door was nailed shut because the deck was unsafe! Ratty carpet, floor 5 smelled as soon as we got off the elevator, chipped paint and uneven floors were the norm. PET OWNERS BEWARE! Even though they allow pets, the whole town is not dog friendly, no green space, even the only small park in town (Which is the only place to get near the water or grass, by the way) is posted no dogs. Our week of sitting by the water(HA) lasted 2 days. Found the West Wind cabins in Clayton,NY in 1000 island area- That was GREAT!
