Facelift Part II
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/4/10
On a more recent trip to Charleston, against my better judgment I stayed at the Shem Creek. I have stayed there many times in the past with pleasant experiences because it is a quaint place, but seriously, they have been saying that they are going to refurbish this place for years now. At one point they were talking about making them time shares. Nothing, nothing has been done. This has nothing to do with the staff being friendly. I just want a CLEAN place to stay.

Had A Great Time
By A Local Yahoo User, 6/10/10
I would definitely recommend the Shem Creek Inn to anyone wanting a nice, moderately priced hotel in the Charleston area. Our family had a wonderful time during our stay here. We had a very clean room facing the marsh and the beds were so soft and comfortable. We loved to walk around on the creek side of the hotel and watch the fishing boats, pelicans, and dolphins. Every morning we would go to the lobby for coffee and then walk around the beautiful neighborhoods that are surrounding the inn. The front desk and housekeeping staff were all very friendly and helpful.

Really Enjoyable
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/16/09
Before writing this I read some of the other reviews about this hotel. I have to admit that the Inn is not new but clean and comfortable...DEFINATELY! Everyone there was very friendly and helped us whenever we asked for something. When I stay somewhere I want to feel safe and welcomed which I got from this place. It doesn't have all the "bells and whistles" like some places but it has a lot of charm and we will definately recommend to friends. As for the where & tear of the place. I talked to the mananger during breakfast one morning. She filled me in on some refurbishing projects they are putting together even let me see the carpet samples etc. for the place. They couldn't do the projects during prime season as they are super full so they are planning it for when it slows down. Come on ppl...give them a break. Think about what actually goes into upgrades in a hotel and the process. I'm glad it's them, not me having to please the entire world. But I know that I left a happy camper.

It's Time For a Face Lift
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/31/09
My spouse and I have been frequenting this place for the past few years. We have seen it decline over these years. We will not be back until it gets an overhaul. Our bathroom had ants. We looked into changing room, but those rooms had ants as well. The tub was all chipped. The foam was spilling out of the ironing board. When our room was "cleaned" it was not replenished with new towels. When I asked for new ones, I was told "I still have to come back to pick up the trash." How many trips does it take to leave towels and clean a small room? Needless to say, the trash was not picked up off the floor. There were no umbrellas by the pool area. They were All broken and waiting for new ones to come in. How long should it take to order 5 umbrellas, and why would you wait for them all to break before you ordered new ones. The tables by the pool were dirty. The elevator was quite a scary ride. It hadn't been inspected since April, 2008. We were disappointed and will not be back until it gets cleaned.

GREAT HONEYMOON
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/16/08
We were told not to book online due to confusion/computer errors and we did not so that worked out great. We were on our honeymoon and had planned to stay one night but ended up staying more because we loved it there! We had the King Suite on the creek and we can't wait to go back again! Loved it!

Truly Spectacular
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/28/08
What an amazing vacation. Staff was so accommodating at check in. We actually booked a parking lot view not knowing there were options. Creekside is the better water view which we requested after the fact. Unfortunately, they were full but were very kind in letting us down nicely. They even mentioned that the creekside could get kind of loud in the evening. After that night, we were glad we were on the parking side. When in town, we will definatley return to Shem Creek.

We'll probably be back next year
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/13/08
Even though it is a little old, we enjoyed the atmosphere of the place. It felt like we were in the tropics somewhere. The style of the building was very peaceful and pleasant. Parking was a little tricky late in the evening. Once I got a space, I hated to give it up. The room was a nice size although it was tight with a roll-a-way bed in it too. Other places we stayed on this trip did not charge extra for roll-a-way bed. We loved having our own private balcony. If I had known there was an elevator, we would have requested a second floor unit. The complimentary breakfast was a blessing also. It was adequate. It was great to be able to walk to restaurants. We ate late lunch at Water's Edge outside by the bar Even though I don't drink, it was nice for my family to be able to walk next door, purchase a drink and sit by the pool in the late evening with friends and drinks. We enjoyed watching the boats going up and back thru Shem Creek, along with the dolphins and pelicans that put on a show everyday. Even though the pool is not quite 'huge', it is a nice size, clean and comfortable water temp. My grandchildren and other family members enjoyed it. The amenities of the room are tasteful. The staff, housekeeping as well as front desk, were very pleasant, knowledgeable and accomodating. Weekend evening/night manager even offered his parking place if we couldn't find one. Wireless service was good to excellent most of the time.Even though I am purchasing property in the area, I still plan to fit a day or so in for Shem Creek Inn.

It served its purpose
By Chris J, 3/12/08
Chances are if you are staying here you are on vacation. If you are on vacation you shouldn't be spending much time in your hotel room anyways, if you do, you are a loser. This hotel served the purposed of giving us a place to sleep and keep our stuff while we were out enjoying the Charleston area. If you are looking for a place a little less expensive that the historical district but still be relatively close, this is a good option. It is only a 5-10 minute drive into the downtown area, so you can go back and forth easily if you must. At the end of the day the creekside cabana bar is perfect for just going down to have a nightcap before you go back to your room to do it with your mate.

Will Look Forward To Next Stay
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/11/08
This hotel has character for sure and why not its in a perfect spot on the creek, everything you need is close by and the dining on Shem Creek is as good as anywhere in Charleston. We had a quiet room we had looking at the marsh, you might think about having a room on the creek but for what its worth the room we had was in an exceptional location, although it was a little worn the sheets and the bed were top notch. This was our honeymoon hotel and the misses really could not say enough about the quality of the bedding. The service at the desk is a little sloppy but kind, the few problems we had in the room were fixed in a hurry while the rest of the staff make it pleasant to be there. A place for romance and night life abounds here in this area. And convenient for those to visit downtown Charleston.
