Kingsail Resort Motel, Marathon

Do not stay here. The hot water heater did not work in my room. I reported it to the girl at the front desk the following morning after I checked in. The owner said she'd check on it. She kept dodging me the rest of my stay. Finally at 8 pm on the night before I left the girl at the front desk (since the owner was always "away" when I asked for her) said they had another room for me, as I was on my way out to dinner. I told her it was too late as I was trying to catch the sunset, but could I get the room key later. They were closed when I came back. The owner was rude beyond rude and offered me a $10 discount, after I paid full rate for 3 nights with no hot water. Also, the septic system backed up all over the parking lot and I had to dodge poopy puddles entering and leaving my room. DO NOT STAY HERE. it's gross, old, nothing works right, and all the other guests were complaining about broken things in their rooms as well.

We were looking for an "Old Florida" type of place to stay and the Kingsail Motel fit the bill perfectly. This place has character and when you sit by the dock having coffee in the morning, the Pelicans will roost on a post close by and you think you are in heaven. The pool is beautiful and well maintained. The efficiencies allow you to fix a meal if you wish and the screened in porches bring the outdoors inside. The staff was very friendly and helpful in answering any questions we might have. The only negative (which wasn't an issue) was that if you wanted to use your laptop, you had to go to the office to get on the internet because the wireless signal did not reach our room. We are planning another trip to the Keys and will be staying at the Kingsail again.

My husband and I got married Nov. 16th 2007 and we had family from upstate NY and Brandon Fl come stay with us here. We arrived in the middle of the night and our rooms were ready and we were able to get right to our rooms. The Lady at the front desk was very friendly. Everything was great. My husband and I had the big suite and everyone hung out there so much. We have not made it back since the wedding but we are scuba divers and are planning an annviersary trip for our two year this year! For those of you that didn't like it..it is the keys..laid back and relaxed. It was very clean and everything was perfect. But then again, you can't please everyone..some are just to high class and stuck up to truly enjoy the world around them!

We went down with a small group and rented three rooms. We enjoyed the pool and the lagoon but as far as people skills go. Their staff was rude especially the old woman with the British accent. The windows on our rooms wouldn't opened because of lack of maintenance. I will never stay their again.

went for memorial weekend. it was busy and noisy. rooms were jammed with people and there was no parking spaces for the people who actually had rooms. told the front desk and they said nothing they could do. i had to park about 15 cars down from my room where all the partying was going on. didnt like that idea. room was bigger than i thought with a kitchen. didnt use the pool there was always about 20 adults and 10 kids at it. docks were nice for the boat. we were the only white americans there. they have about 40 rooms so add that up. dont know if i will go again unless i want to get out cheap.

Reasonable rates, clean and well maintained rooms, sparkling pool, close to Bahia Honda Beach, The Dolphin Research Center and Key West without the KW rates, owned by a loyal UnivOfMich fan (GO BLUE)! If you're looking for someplace to hang your hat while visiting the Keys, this is the place. We were there in Jan 07 and will be going back ASAP.

Sparce, 1940-1950's furnishings. Loud semi-functional A/C TINY showers. Very hard, thin mattresses. BUT -- a nice pool, good access for small boats -- not especially tidy or well kept up. No one enforces pool or picnic area rules. Mgt allows huge groups to occupy single rooms, which spills them outdoors on balconies, etc. to disrupt the peace of quiet, rule-minding guests.

The Owner and his family they're so nice and help me in everything that I needed. Next time, I will stay for more time. I highly recommend this place to everybody! Bruno Romero

Basic, old Florida rooms. We had a kitchenette with screened porch too near the pool. The BBQ's, pool, ice machine, cabana, etc were always in use by the same group of people - they seldom spoke English, yelled constantly, played loud ya-ya music at all hours, ignored pool use/drink rules, smoked constantly, showed plenty of prison artwork around the pool, used the ice machine to fill their fishing coolers every morning (leaving it empty), left dirty diapers/trash everywhere, screaming just to scream - whenever, etc. This group rented two rooms and had 20+ people stay with them on air matresses. A family reunion at our expense. Screaming pool fights at 2 in the morning, drunks arguing outside our room's window in Spanglish, cars blocking the way out playing ya-ya, no clue about quiet hours (only written in English), and no help/enforcement from management; although I spoke to three different clerks during our stay. This same group called the police to report someone stole their dive vest after I fished a dive vest out of the lagoon and hung it on a pole near my boat for them to find. The next time I'll stay at a higher quality hotel that enforces the rules and ensures guests are considerate of others. What should have been a pleasant visit to the Keys with some sailing thrown in was ruined by inconsiderate guests that did not pay any attention to the rules or give any consideration toward other guests. If you get lucky and don't have a bunch of buttheads staying in violation of hotel rules and running amock like we did it might be a great place to stay. I will never stay at this hotel again!

Spent the Memorial day weekend at Kingsail. Great rooms, ramp in good condition, excellent dockage. We will go back again and agian. Perfect location. Tricky and tight access by boat to Florida Bay. Make sure you have another boater show you the way.
